If you step back and look at the automotive landscape right now, Mahindra’s shift is hard to miss. The brand is clearly reworking its design language, rolling out new platforms, and setting up its next phase with intent. With the NU_IQ modular platform entering the picture, Mahindra has put itself firmly back into the conversation about what comes next, not just what’s selling today.

That future is already taking shape on the road. Extensive testing is underway and the upcoming Mahindra Vision S has recently been spotted under heavy camouflage with just enough details peeking through to spark fresh speculation.

What makes the Vision S especially important is what it represents. It’s widely believed to be the next-generation Bolero with a market launch expected around 2027. Recent spy shots go a step further capturing the Mahindra Vision S interior in real world. These images confirm something many enthusiasts were hoping for - a diesel powertrain is very much on the cards. The fuel filler layout clearly shows an AdBlue refill cap beside the diesel filler, pointing to a BS6 Phase-2 compliant diesel engine under the skin.

Scroll down and the picture gets even clearer. The latest look at the Mahindra Vision S diesel AT interior gets a deeper comparison between the test mule and the original concept.

This upcoming Mahindra sub-4m premium compact SUV concept has already been revealed to the world in concept form and each new sighting helps bridge the gap between show car and production reality.

In the spied images we can see that the steering wheel seems to be a non-illuminated one, not as futuristic or minimalist as some might have expected. Still, the cabin has thoughtful details. The larger rectangular-shaped infotainment screen stands out. On each side of the screen, there are slightly triangular-shaped AC vents. The driver display looks semi-digital, so it's fair to say this could be a mid-variant.

Just below the infotainment screen, physical buttons handle the AC and other controls, which is a nice move since not everyone is comfortable relying solely on a touchscreen. Even in the top specs, it's expected that these physical buttons will remain. Another major highlight spotted in the cabin is the panoramic glass roof which stretches well beyond the front row and continues almost to the rear seat headrests. By extending it this far, the interior immediately feels more open. This well-loved feature could easily become a key attracting point for the vehicle.

The Mahindra Vision S interior also sports a subtle greyish shade of fabric upholstery. You could say the image concept can be navigated in this spy shot, but in the top trims, the cabin will feel much closer to the concept, with features and finishes aligning more directly with that original vision.

2027 Mahindra Vision S exterior

A full comment on the upcoming Mahindra Vision S exterior would be premature with these spy shots, since most of the details are still hidden. Even so, a few things are noticeable. The circular headlamps with integrated LED DRLs give a sense of familiarity, while the new grille clearly draws from the concept.

There’s also a yellow indicator tucked into the lower bumper. At the rear, the shape looks very square and while the taillights aren’t visible yet, they’re likely to follow the concept’s vertical design. Overall, it seems set to carry a mix of rugged and boxy looks, staying true to Mahindra’s design language without straying too far from the concept.

Upcoming Mahindra Vision S engine options

The Mahindra Vision S is expected to offer both petrol and diesel engine options. The diesel is confirmed, as the spy shots clearly show evidence of it. On the petrol side, it’s likely to feature a 1.2-liter turbo unit, while the diesel could come with a 1.5-liter capacity. For drivability, buyers can probably expect both manual and automatic transmission options.
