Captain seats are still uncommon in the three-row SUV segment, with most models using a three-seat second-row bench. Among electric SUVs, the Kia Carens Clavis EV is currently the only other model to offer captain seats. The new 6-seat XEV 9S gives more space for second-row passengers. It could suit families who want extra rear-seat space but do not need a seven-seat layout.

Mahindra XEV 9S features, battery and performance

The Mahindra XEV 9S comes with a good list of features across the range. These include a triple-screen setup, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, wireless charger, automatic climate control, adjustable driver & co-driver seats, ambient lighting, leatherette seats, 360-degree camera, parking sensor, cruise control, and Level 2 ADAS, among others.

It is offered with 59kWh, 70kWh and 79kWh battery options. The largest battery has a claimed range of up to 679km. All versions use a rear-wheel-drive setup with a single electric motor producing 282bhp and 380Nm. Mahindra claims a 0- 100 km/h time of 7 seconds and a top speed of 202 km/h.
