Outline

Maruti Suzuki has started the first service campaign for its recently launched e Vitara electric SUV. Owners have started receiving letters from Nexa dealerships about a software issue related to the vehicle's Integrated Display System (IDS). The issue is limited to the information shown on the display and does not affect how the SUV drives or performs.

According to the letter sent to owners, an error in the IDS software can make the average power consumption figure shown on the display appear lower than the actual figure. In simple terms, the car may be using a certain amount of electricity, but the display could show a lower consumption figure. Maruti has clarified that this is only a display-related issue. It does not affect the battery, electric motor or the way the vehicle operates. Owners can continue to drive the e Vitara normally.

Software update to fix the issue

Maruti will fix the problem by updating the software that controls the Integrated Display System. The update will be carried out free of cost at authorised Nexa dealerships. Owners who receive the communication can contact their nearest Nexa dealership and book a workshop appointment.

The technicians will install the updated software, after which the power consumption figure on the display should show the correct information. Maruti has also confirmed that the software update will not affect the vehicle's warranty. Owners will not have to pay for the update or any related service work.

No mechanical or safety issues

This service campaign is focused only on the display system. There is no mention in the communication of any problem with the battery pack, electric motor, charging system or safety equipment.

For owners, this means the campaign is not related to a problem that could stop the car from working or affect its safety. The main issue is that the efficiency figure shown on the screen may not be accurate.

This figure is useful for EV owners because it shows how much electricity the car is using. A lower figure can make it appear that the car is using less energy than it actually is. The software update is intended to correct this information.
