Maruti Swift CNG AMT launched in India at Rs 7.92 lakh — All you need to know!

Maruti Suzuki has launched the Swift CNG with an AMT gearbox, with prices starting at Rs 7.92 lakh, ex-showroom. This is the first time the Swift gets an automatic gearbox with a CNG powertrain. With this launch, Maruti Suzuki becomes the second carmaker in India to offer an AMT with a CNG-powered car. Tata Motors was the first, with models such as the Tiago and Tigor available with this combination.
Maruti Swift CNG AMT engine, output and mileage
Under the hood, the Swift CNG AMT uses the Advanced Z12E, 1.2-litre engine, built with Dual Variable Valve Timing (Dual VVT) and Idle Start Stop (ISS) technology. On petrol, this engine makes 82.93 PS at 5,700 rpm and 112.4 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. Switching to CNG brings output down to 69.75 PS at 5,700 rpm and 101.8 Nm of torque at 2,900 rpm, the same figures seen across the Dzire and Baleno's equivalent CNG-AMT variants, since all three share this engine under the Auto Green Mission.
Maruti claims a fuel efficiency of 35.34 km/kg for the AMT version, which is 2.49 km/kg higher than the manual CNG variant. The Swift CNG AMT costs Rs 35,000 more than the equivalent manual CNG trim, offering better mileage along with the convenience of an automatic gearbox.

Maruti Swift CNG AMT tank, suspension and other details
Like the manual version, the Swift CNG AMT comes with a 55-litre, water-equivalent CNG tank. Both versions retain a retuned suspension to manage the added weight of the tank, along with a CNG fuel level indicator and a fuel switch that lets drivers toggle between CNG and petrol as needed.
The Swift CNG AMT is available across the VXi, VXi(O) and ZXi trims, and it competes most directly with the Tata Tiago CNG AMT and Tata Tigor CNG AMT. One notable difference from the Tata models is how the CNG tank is packaged: while Tata uses a dual-cylinder setup in the boot for its CNG-powered cars, Maruti has stuck with a single, large tank instead. This means boot space is quite limited on the Swift CNG, regardless of whether the manual or AMT gearbox is chosen.
How Maruti's AGS technology works on the Swift
The Z12E CNG engine is paired with Maruti's Auto Gear Shift (AGS) transmission, which is an automated manual transmission (AMT). The 5-speed gearbox uses an intelligent actuating unit and offers a clutch-less, two-pedal driving experience. The gearbox changes gears automatically, making the Swift easier to drive in heavy traffic. Drivers can also shift gears manually without using a clutch pedal when they want more control.

How the S-CNG system is engineered
Like other Maruti S-CNG models, the Swift's CNG system is tested for safety, performance, durability and fuel efficiency. It gets an Intelligent Injection System, stainless steel pipes and joints, and Integrated Wire Harnesses to reduce the risk of leaks, corrosion and short circuits. A Microswitch prevents the engine from starting during refuelling, while Idle Start Stop helps save fuel in traffic. With the Swift joining the Dzire and Baleno, Maruti now offers automatic S-CNG options across its three popular models.
