MG unveils MG ADAPT — One platform for EV, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and REEV
- 1India's first platform supporting EV, HEV, PHEV and REEV powertrains
- 2One EV and one PHEV are scheduled to debut on the ADAPT platform
- 3An intelligent energy management system automatically shifts between 4 drive modes
JSW MG Motor India has unveiled the MG ADAPT (Advance Drive Architecture Platform Technology), which it calls India's first multi-energy vehicle platform. The new platform can support electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and range extender electric vehicles (REEVs) using the same base architecture. MG has also confirmed that its first EV and first PHEV based on this platform will be launched in FY2026-27.
What MG ADAPT is designed to do
Unlike platforms built for just one type of powertrain, MG ADAPT is designed to support multiple technologies on the same architecture. This means MG can build EVs, hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and range extender EVs without developing separate platforms for each. The idea is to give buyers more choices based on their driving needs while reducing development time for future models.

MG says the platform has been developed to deliver better driving range, faster charging, improved efficiency, stronger performance, and enhanced safety. It is also designed to offer a smoother and more refined driving experience across different powertrain options.
Commenting on the announcement, Anurag Mehrotra, Managing Director of JSW MG Motor India, said the platform is designed to give customers the freedom to choose the powertrain that best suits their lifestyle without compromising on performance or efficiency. He added that MG ADAPT will serve as the foundation for the brand's future new energy vehicles in India.
MG ADAPT core hardware — engine, battery, drive unit and transmission
MG ADAPT is built around an integrated hybrid system that combines the engine, battery, electric motor, and transmission to work together more efficiently. The company says this setup is designed to improve fuel efficiency, performance, and overall driving comfort.
The platform uses a dedicated hybrid engine, a specially developed battery pack, a compact 10-in-1 electric drive unit, and an electromagnetic hybrid transmission. MG says these components work together to deliver smoother performance, quicker response, and better efficiency. An intelligent energy management system continuously manages the engine, battery, and electric motor, automatically switching between different drive modes to deliver the best balance of performance and efficiency.
MG ADAPT has four automatic drive modes

The intelligent energy management system in the MG ADAPT platform automatically selects the most suitable drive mode based on driving conditions. This helps improve efficiency and performance without any input from the driver.
| Drive mode | How it works |
|---|---|
| Pure Electric Drive | Runs only on the electric motor for quiet, emission-free city driving. |
| Series Hybrid Drive | The engine charges the battery while the electric motor drives the vehicle. |
| Parallel Hybrid Drive | The engine and electric motor work together for stronger performance. |
| Engine Direct Drive | The engine powers the vehicle directly for better efficiency at higher speeds. |
The system switches between these modes automatically, whether the vehicle is driving in city traffic, cruising on the highway, or accelerating for an overtake. Drivers do not need to manually change modes.
Range extender (REEV) capability
MG ADAPT also supports Range Extender Electric Vehicle (REEV) technology. In this setup, the electric motor always drives the wheels, while the petrol engine is used only to generate electricity and recharge the battery. It never powers the wheels directly. This gives the vehicle the smooth and quiet driving feel of an EV while making long-distance travel easier, as the petrol engine helps recharge the battery when needed.
MG's new platform will power its future EVs and hybrids

With one EV and one PHEV already confirmed for FY2026-27, MG ADAPT marks the next phase of JSW MG Motor India's electrification strategy. Instead of developing separate platforms for different powertrains, MG will use one flexible architecture to build multiple types of new energy vehicles.
This approach can help the company bring new models to market faster. For buyers, it means a wider choice of EVs and hybrid models from MG in the coming years. However, the company is yet to reveal the first models, their prices, or detailed specifications.
