For those looking to cut fuel consumption further, the hybrid variant pairs a 1.8-litre petrol engine with two electric motors — one assists with power generation, while the other drives the wheels. Backed by a 1.4kWh battery, the hybrid can run in electric mode at low speeds in urban conditions and recovers energy through braking. Renault claims that much of city driving can be handled purely on electric power, minimising petrol use.

Renault Duster ARAI mileage
For a 163PS turbo petrol SUV, the Renault Duster’s ARAI-certified numbers make an impressive case. According to Renault India, the 1.3L Turbo TCe 160 paired with the 6-speed DCT delivers 18.45 km/l, while the same engine in manual guise returns 17.75 km/l. These figures put the Duster ahead of or at least on par with many rivals in its segment, even some with less power.
So far, only the TCe 160’s ARAI mileage has been disclosed. Official Duster mileage numbers for the smaller 1.0L TCe 100 engine are still awaited but it’s expected to offer even better fuel efficiency thanks to its lower displacement and reduced power output.
Interestingly, the DCT automatic slightly outperforms the manual in real-world fuel efficiency. Renault says this is due to the DCT’s fast and precise gear shifts. These keep the engine running in its optimal efficiency range.
When combined with the Duster’s lightweight construction and aerodynamic design, these numbers show that the new-generation Duster is engineered for real-world running costs, not just showroom specs.
