Tata Motors suspends Nexon, Sierra production at Sanand plant due to Gujarat flooding

Tata Motors has confirmed a temporary disruption in production at its manufacturing plants in Sanand, Gujarat, after the region was hit by exceptionally heavy monsoon rainfall and subsequent flooding. The disclosure came through a regulatory filing with stock exchanges, in which the company detailed both the extent of the disruption and its expected timeline for recovery.

Extreme rainfall triggers widespread flooding

According to the filing, some areas in Gujarat received between 300mm and 500mm of rain within a 24-hour period, an intensity of rainfall that led to significant flooding across the state. The downpour caused widespread disruptions to road and rail networks and forced the evacuation of over 40,000 people, underlining the scale of the weather event that ultimately affected Tata Motors' operations at Sanand.

Tata Nexon, Sierra, Tiago and Tigor production affected

The Sanand manufacturing complex, established in 2010 and located roughly 25- 30 km from Ahmedabad, houses two separate Tata Motors passenger vehicle plants. Both facilities are responsible for manufacturing the Tata Sierra, Nexon, Tiago and Tigor, meaning the production pause directly affects four of the company's model lines simultaneously. Given that these are among Tata Motors' higher-volume models in the passenger vehicle segment, the disruption could lead to extended waiting periods for customers who have already placed bookings, particularly if the pause continues beyond the company's expected recovery window.

Supplier facilities also hit by flooding

Beyond its own assembly lines, Tata Motors noted that severe flooding also disrupted supplier facilities located in and around Gujarat, compounding the impact on its broader supply chain.
