Outline

The Tata Sierra’s comeback has been hard to ignore. Since its launch in November 2025, the SUV has crossed one lakh bookings and moved past 10,000 deliveries. Sierra has generated the kind of buzz rarely seen in India's fiercely competitive mid-size SUV segment.

Yet, throughout all this momentum, one fundamental question has gone conspicuously unanswered: what is the Tata Sierra ARAI mileage?

While buyers were making six-figure purchasing decisions, Tata Motors never officially disclosed the certified fuel efficiency numbers. Now, thanks to an RTI application filed by social media user Vahan Warta and data sourced directly from ARAI, the Tata Sierra mileage figures have finally been brought to light.

The figure reveals both the Tata Sierra diesel mileage and the turbo petrol returns. Scroll down for a detailed look at the new Tata Sierra's claimed mileage.

The new Sierra offers three engine options. The 1.5-litre diesel continues as a proven choice, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. Alongside it is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, offered with a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT. Sitting at the top is the new 1.5-litre 4-cylinder T-GDI turbo-petrol, which comes exclusively with a 6-speed automatic. Another key highlight is the addition of an AWD drivetrain, a first for Tata’s new-generation lineup.

2026 Tata Sierra ARAI mileage — What the numbers say

For months after the Sierra's launch, Tata Motors chose not to officially publish ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figures. This unusual silence raised questions in an Indian market where mileage is one of the primary factors driving purchase decisions. The opacity was filled, ironically, not by a press release but through an RTI response.

According to RTI data accessed via ARAI and reported by Rushlane, the Tata Sierra mileage figures break down as follows: the 1.5L Kryojet diesel received ARAI certification on 21 November 2025, returning 18.8 kmpl; the 1.5L TGDi Hyperion petrol was certified on 11 December 2025, recording 13.5 kmpl. Notably, the 1.5L NA Revotron petrol variant's ARAI certificate has not yet been issued.

It is worth noting that around the time of its launch, Tata Motors had drawn attention to a different fuel efficiency achievement. The Sierra’s 1.5-litre Hyperion petrol recorded 29.9 kmpl during a controlled 12-hour endurance run at the NATRAX proving ground in Indore, earning a spot in the India Book of Records. It sounds impressive but that number comes from a controlled test and is not directly comparable to standard ARAI-certified mileage figures.
