Top 5 things to know ahead of the Kia Carens Clavis EV India launch

Kia is ready to launch its first mass-market electric car for the Indian market, which will be an MPV based on the recently facelifted Kia Carens. Ahead of the official Kia Carens Clavis EV India launch that is scheduled to take place via a live stream tomorrow, here are five things to know about it.

Kia India’s first mass market EV

The Clavis EV will mark Kia’s foray into the mass market electric vehicle space in India, with its earlier offerings like the EV6 and EV9 being targeted towards niche customer segments. The Clavis EV isn’t built electric from ground up and is rather a modified version of the ICE Carens Clavis MPV.

Battery and motor specs

Kia announced a few specs of the upcoming Clavis EV through an Instagram post a fortnight ago. It will get a 51.4kWh battery pack with an MIDC-claimed range of 490 kilometres. This seems to be the same pack that is also offered on the Hyundai Creta Electric, and we expect Kia to offer the Creta’s smaller 42kWh battery pack on the Carens Clavis EV as well.

Exterior design

Most of the panels and design cues have been directly lifted from the ICE Carens Clavis. There have, however, been a few changes made to separate the EV from the ICE. These include a revised front grille, a charging port at the front, and differently-styled wheels.

Interior and features

The dashboard is almost identical to the ICE version of the MPV, too, leave for a new centre console that frees up space in the front row. Key upcoming Kia Carens Clavis EV features include ambient lighting, auto-dimming IRVM, panoramic sunroof, a dual-screen setup, steering-mounted controls, and more.

Expected Kia Carens Clavis EV price in India

Kia will launch the Carens Clavis EV on July 15, 2026, via a YouTube live stream. We expect the MPV to be priced northwards of Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). While it won’t really have many direct competitors, it will go against the BYD eMax 7 electric MPV.
