The Kia Sorento is edging closer to its India launch, with select dealerships reportedly starting to accept unofficial bookings. Kia has not yet made an official announcement regarding bookings or confirmed a launch date. 

Reports also suggest the SUV could arrive between August and October 2026, though the exact timeline remains unconfirmed. Until Kia makes an official announcement, these details should be treated as dealership-level information. Once launched, the Sorento will become Kia's flagship SUV in the Indian market.

Upcoming Kia Sorento unofficial bookings — What is known so far

Multiple Kia dealerships have reportedly started accepting unofficial bookings for the Sorento ahead of its official launch. However, the reported booking amount varies, with some dealerships asking for Rs 25,000 and others Rs 50,000. Such differences are common before a manufacturer officially opens bookings, as dealerships may collect token amounts independently.

A new flagship, built on a monocoque platform

The upcoming Sorento will become Kia's flagship SUV in India, sitting above the Seltos, Carens, and the recently unveiled Syros EV. Unlike SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner, which use a body-on-frame chassis, the Sorento is built on a monocoque platform. This setup is expected to offer a smoother ride and better handling while still providing the space and practicality of a three-row SUV.

In terms of design, the Sorento features Kia's signature tiger nose grille, roof rails, chrome window surrounds, and dual-tone 19-inch alloy wheels. However, it does not adopt Kia's latest Opposites United design language seen on some of the brand's newer models.

Kia Sorento dimensions & seating configurations

The global-spec Sorento, which has been spotted testing in India, measures 4,815 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,700 mm in height, with a 2,815 mm wheelbase. While the India-spec model could have some changes, it is expected to retain a similar overall size.

The Kia Sorento is expected to be available in 5-, 6-, and 7-seater configurations. Kia has not officially confirmed these seating options yet. If launched with all three layouts, the Sorento will offer buyers more choice than most rivals, which are usually available in only one or two seating configurations.

Kia Sorento powertrain

The Kia Sorento is expected to be offered with a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong-hybrid powertrain in India. Kia has not yet confirmed the India-spec powertrain or output. However, the UK-spec Sorento with the same hybrid setup produces 238 hp and 380 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.

The India-spec Sorento is also expected to be available with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, although Kia has not confirmed which drivetrain options will be offered. If the all-wheel-drive version arrives, the Sorento could become one of the few hybrid SUVs in its segment to offer AWD.

Local assembly and expected pricing

The Kia Sorento is expected to be brought to India via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route and assembled locally. This should help Kia price it more competitively than if it were imported as a fully built unit.

The expected ex-showroom price is likely to be between Rs 40 lakh and Rs 50 lakh, although some reports suggest Kia could keep it around Rs 45 lakh. At this price, the Sorento is expected to rival the Toyota Fortuner, MG Majestor, Jeep Meridian, and Skoda Kodiaq, while offering buyers a strong-hybrid alternative in the segment.
