Outline

The Volkswagen Tera was recently launched in Brazil in March. Following its launch, the Brazilian-spec VW Tera crash test has also been conducted, where it impressively achieved 5 stars in the Latin NCAP.

What makes the Volkswagen Tera safety rating even more eye-catching is the expected possibility of this model launching in India by 2026. This strong performance in the NCAP test further draws our attention and the Tera certainly didn’t disappoint. Let’s scroll below and take a dive into the Volkswagen Tera Latin NCAP crash test performance across different categories.

The Volkswagen Tera scored an impressive 35.95 points in adult occupant safety, translating to about 89.88%. This score reflects its performance across multiple tests: 13.1 points in the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier, 7.99 points in the Side Movable Deformable Barrier, 2.56 points in the Whiplash Rear Impact, and 7.27 points in the Side Pole Impact test.

Beyond these core tests, the Tera also meets stringent rear impact structure requirements. It comes equipped with AEB City, which fully meets technical and availability standards, earning a perfect score. Plus, the rescue sheet is available, meeting Latin NCAP criteria, all contributing to the additional points.

In the Volkswagen Tera’s child occupant crash tests, featuring dummies representing 3-year-old and 1.5-year-old children, it achieved an impressive total of 42.75 points. Breaking down the score, the Tera earned 21.75 out of 24 in dynamic performance, a perfect 12 out of 12 for installation, and 9 out of 13 in vehicle assessment.

According to Latin NCAP, the Q1.5 and 3-year-old child seats were rearward-facing using ISOFIX and support legs. Both prevented head exposure, with limited chest protection; the 3-year-old seat offered full head protection. Both provided full side impact protection and passed installation tests. The car has standard i-Size ISOFIX, three-point seatbelts in all seats, passenger airbag warnings for rearward child seats, and standard airbag disconnection.

In the Safety Assist category, the Volkswagen Tera safety rating achieved 36.45 points, around 84.76%. This total comes from key tests, including 3 points for speed assistance, a perfect 10 points for seat belt reminders, 15 points for standard ESC, and 8.45 points in the AEB Interurban test.

Commenting further on Safety Assist, Latin NCAP reports that the car comes with seatbelt reminders for all seats and ESC as standard. It performed well in the Moose tests, reaching 95 km/h in the ADAC test and 75 km/h in the Consumer test. A speed limiter is also included as standard. Meanwhile, blind spot detection, lane support, and rear emergency braking are available as optional features with good performance, though they don’t meet the scoring criteria. The AEB Interurban system meets all requirements, achieving nearly a full score.
