How to Access your RC on mParivahan and DigiLocker

Do you know that once the registration of your car is transferred to your name, you can travel anywhere without having to carry the physical Registration Certificate (RC) document and your driving licence?

Getting your physical RC once your vehicle’s ownership has been transferred can be a hectic, time taking process. The Government of India introduced mParivahan and DigiLocker to eliminate the need of carrying physical copies of official documents. You can simply upload and store important documents like your RC or DL on these apps and access them digitally, whenever required. In fact, as per the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, RC or DL, when presented through mParivahan or DigiLocker is deemed to be legally recognised at par with the original document.

In this blog, we will guide you on how to access your car’s Registration Certificate from DigiLocker and mParivahan so that you can drive worry-free even if you do not have your physical car documents. You can also present these documents to the traffic authorities if required at any time.

1. Using mParivahan to access your RC

The mParivahan mobile application was launched by the Government of India in 2017 with the aim to empower users to avail transport services related to Registration Certificates, Driving Licences, Challans, etc. at their fingertips. It also enables users to allow sharing of RCs with their family members without any hassle.

What would you need for accessing virtual RC using mParivahan?

• Registered Mobile Number to sign up on the mParivahan app
• Your Vehicle No., last 5 digits of Chassis No., and last 5 digits of Engine No.

Step 1: Download the NextGen mParivahan application on your smartphone. You can download it from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

Step 2: Enter the required details and complete the sign-up process using your registered mobile number and OTP.

Step 3: On the home screen, click on the “My Virtual RC” button.

Step 4: Enter the Vehicle No, Chassis No. (Last 5 digits) and Engine No. (Last 5 digits) and Click on “Add My Vehicle”.

Step 5: You will now be able to see the RC details which will be saved in your App dashboard and can be viewed at any time.

2. Using DigiLocker to access your RC

The DigiLocker mobile application is a digital document wallet that provides access to authentic digital documents like Aadhaar, PAN, RC, DL, etc. The issued documents in the DigiLocker system are deemed to be at par with the original documents as per Section 9A of the IT Rules, 2016.

What would you need for accessing RC using DigiLocker?

• Registered Mobile Number to sign up on the DigiLocker app
• Your Vehicle No. and Chassis No.

Step 1: Download the DigiLocker application on your smartphone. You can download it from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

Step 2: Sign up or log in to your DigiLocker account.

Step 3: Once logged in, click on the “Search” button on the bottom navigation bar and type “RC” and click on “Registration of Vehicles”  in the Search results.
OR
Under the Categories section on the Search page, click on Transport >> Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and select “Registration of Vehicles”.

Step 4: Your name will be prefilled from Aadhaar. Enter your car Registration No. and entire Chassis No. (17 characters). Then click on “Get Document”.

Step 5: Your Registration Certificate will be displayed on the screen. You can access your RC anytime by going to the “Issued Documents” section.
