The automobile industry in India is commonly thought of a budget-friendly one with manufacturers such as Tata and Maruti being the predominant cars seen on the roads. While it might be true that Maruti and Tata cars are extremely common in the country, there is a segment of cars that stands out from the rest – and for good reason. Commonly referred to as “Supercars” or “Uber-Luxury” cars, this segment sells cars that are designed to perform unlike any other car in the country. The offer mind blowing speed, unimaginable performance, and a price tag that is capable of taking your breath away. Here are the upcoming cars in India that are priced above Rs. 1 Crore.

Audi RS Q8

Given the fact that SUVs are a huge selling point in India, the upcoming Audi RS Q8 is destined to stand out for all the right reasons. Everything from the RS Q8’s looks to its unbelievable performance is something we should all be excited about when it is finally launched in the country. Powering the RS Q8 is a 4.0L Twin-Turbo V8 petrol engine that produces an impressive 591Ps of power and 590Nm of torque. Mated to the massive engine is an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox that offers All-Wheel-Drive capabilities. In terms of features, the RS Q8 comes with a large 12.3-inch display that houses all the controls as well as a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system. There is also an 8.6-inch touchscreen display that handles the RS Q8’s automatic climate control seamlessly. Some of the other features include heated seats, adaptive climate control, 22-inch wheels, and a Bang and Olufsen audio setup. Audi is a manufacturer that delivers everything from high-quality interiors to a superior driving performance in a stylish and premium designed car with the RS Q8. Thanks to the popularity Audi already has in India, we can expect the RS Q8 to do exceedingly well in the country when it is finally launched this year.

Audi e-tron

While Audi is known for their sports cars and luxury sedans, the e-tron is their first shot at an all-electric vehicle and was first made public in 2018. The car is set to hit Indian roads sometime in 2020 and a pre-owned car evaluation tool can be used to easily get your hands on one when it launches. The e-tron will get its power from a large 95kWh Lithium-Ion battery that will run the dual electric motor setup. The 561Nm of torque produced by the motors will take the e-tron from 0-100 kmph in just 6.6 seconds. With Boost Mode on, that number is significantly reduced to 5.7 seconds which is better than some regular cars in the market right now. On a full charge, the battery of the e-tron is said to provide a range of over 400 km and comes with a quick charge feature that takes the vehicle from 0-80 per cent in about 30 minutes.

Porsche Taycan

As the world slowly, but surely, moves towards implementing electric vehicles into their lives on a daily basis, Porsche has finally decided to enter the discussion with their own take on the matter – the Porsche Taycan. The first EV from the German manufacturer and it is a beauty, not to mention, quite the performer as well. The car will be available in 2 options; the Turbo and the Turbo S. Both cars will house a large 93.4 kWh Lithium-Ion battery that will provide power to the dual electric motors attached on the front and rear axles. While the Turbo will produce 670 horsepower, the Turbo S is set to produce an impressive 750 horsepower. The Taycan will also be the first EV to feature a 2-speed transmission which will make getting to faster speeds easier and a lot more fun. The more powerful Turbo S is capable of reaching 0-100kmph in under 3 seconds and has a top speed of 250kmph. Both the variants offer a range of about 480km which is more than just impressive – it is definitely one of the best EV available right now and could have a lot of people preparing their RC transfer papers soon. In terms of looks, the Taycan has a sleek and sturdy design that screams ‘sporty’ in every possible way. The front of the car looks resoundingly familiar as it has a mix of the iconic 911 and 718 features combined perfectly. The car does get newly shaped LED headlamps along with a new bumper and larger air dams while the rear features new, larger taillights and a sportier bumper as well. The inside of the car is, as expected fitted with luxurious leather seats, a leather steering wheel, a digital dashboard, a touchscreen infotainment system, TFT control panels, and heightened safety features that include airbags for the front and rear seats.

Aston Martin DBX

We normally associate Aston Martin with top-tier sedans and sports cars, but they have finally entered the SUV segment with the Aston Martin DBX. It was initially announced back in November, 2018 and is set to be launched in India in 2020. The SUV will directly compete with the likes of the Lamborghini Urus outside the country and will be priced at about 3.50 Crore. The DBX will be imported from the new and only factory specifically designed for the SUV in Wales. Belonging to the lineup of the ‘Second Century Plan’ of Aston Martin’s subsidiary brand Legondo, the DBX should come with a plethora of new features and electronics from Mercedes. Under the hood, the DBX will most probably house the BSVI-compliant version of the AMG 4.0L twin-turbo V8 petrol engine, also from Mercedes-Benz with the current BSVI-compliant 5.2L twin-turbo V12 engine likely to feature on later models. There are some rumours about a third engine variant that could see the DBX running on a hybrid motor in the future.

Mercedes-Benz AMG GLE 53 Coupe

If there was one car from Mercedes-Benz that you should be waiting for, it has to be the AMG GLE 53 Coupe. This stunning car looks sleek, stylish, and delivers a performance like no other. Thanks to the massive 3.0L In-Line turbocharged petrol engine that is capable of generating 429Ps of power and 384Nm of torque, the AMG GLE 53 Coupe is probably one of the most powerful coupe’s in the Indian market right now. Mated to the engine is a 9-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT automatic transmission. Mercedes has included 21-inch wheels on the AMG GLE 53 Coupe which gives it unrealistic control and that will be extremely important on Indian roads. As of now, that is all we know about the India-bound coupe, but we expect to get more information in the coming weeks given that the car will be launched by the end of this year. Given what is on offer, the AMG GLE 53 Coupe can quickly become a high-seller through a used car evaluation tool that can be found online to get the best deals on buying or selling cars.

Mercedes-Benz EQC

Across the globe, electric vehicles or EVs are slowly but surely making their presence felt and it’s about time Mercedes-Benz got into the story as well. Welcome the Mercedes-Benz EQC. This electric SUV is probably one of the most anticipated EVs in the market right now – not only because it comes from one of the biggest names in the automobile industry, but also because it is expected to be a complete powerhouse. When Mercedes showcased the EQC, they did so with a variant called the “Edition 1886”. This model was powered by a massive 8kWh Lithium-Ion battery that is expected to give the EQC a minimum range of 445 kilometers on a full battery. With those numbers, you can see why the EQC might just become an instant hit with all EV enthusiasts. When it comes to charge time, the EQC comes with a 7.4kW AC charger that can be used is any home port as well as outdoor charging stations (wherever available) but will be a lot slower as compared to the advertised Mercedes-Benz wall box charger that delivers power up to three times faster than the regular charger. It can do this through the 110kW DC charger that is featured in the station and can take the battery from 10-80 percent in just 40 minutes. The EQC houses a dual motor setup that allows All-Wheel-Drive and is capable of generating 408Ps of power and 760Nm f torque. It is also estimated that the EQC will be able to go from 0-100 Kmph in an impressive 5.1 seconds. In terms of features, the EQC will come with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, multi-zone climate control, luxurious upholstery, MBUX, and a digital assistant voice command setup.

Tesla Model S

The flagship car from the popular carmaker is finally on its way to India and the Tesla Model S has so much to offer the Indian market. The Model S has already taken on and beaten its competition including the Audi A8, the BMW 7-Series, and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class in Europe and the United States and is ready to take on any other electric vehicle that comes its way. The sedan is currently available in three different variants but we don’t expect all of them to make it to India. The onboard battery is powerful enough to take the Model S from 0-100 Kmph in an extremely quick 2.3 seconds and is capable of offering a range of 560 Kms when fully charged. We don’t know exactly what we can expect from Tesla when the Model S finally reaches the country but we will have to wait to see when the company makes its way over.

Aston Martin DBS Superleggera

The Aston Martin DBS Superleggera is an outstanding piece of machinery that was created to perform like no other car in the world. With a drop-top convertible design, this car goes from uber-chic to downright stunning with a flick of a switch. As is with all Aston Martin models, the DBS Superleggera has a sleek, stylish, and elegant body that is both lightweight and extremely sturdy. Under the exteriors, the Superleggera houses some of the most powerful and advanced mechanics including a BSVI-compliant 5.2L twin-turbo V12 petrol engine that pushes out up to 900Nm of torque. The car is a 5204cc beast and the automatic transmission takes the car from 0-100 kmph in just 3.6 seconds with a top speed of 340kmph. Just like most supercars, the DBS Superleggera has a low mileage of 7.1 kmpl, but with power like this under you, it is totally worth it.

BMW i3

If the BMW i3 doesn’t make you reach for your RC transfer papers, I don’t know what will. This small completely EV from the German giants has already been made available in Europe and America and is ready to make its appearance in India in 2020. Firstly, the exteriors of the i3 are absolutely stunning – not only does it give the car a futuristic look, but it does so with style. On the front, the car is fitted with the same kind of kidney grille we have come to love BMW for while the U-shaped headlamps and indicators are comprised of LED lights. Although the car is quite small, BMW has put large 20-inch wheels on it which gives it better stability and grip on all types of roads. Even on the back, the car features LED taillights and turn indicators that surround the large bumper. One of the standout features though are the suicide doors that give the i3 instant attention. In terms of the interiors and features, the car has a 5.7-inch instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment system, Apple CarPlay connectivity, reverse parking camera, and Active Cruise Control. Powering the i3 is a 33kWh Lithium-Ion battery that is attached to an 184PS electric motor and can take the car from 0-100km in 6.9 seconds with a maximum range of 280kms.

Bentley Bentayga 2021

The Bentley Bentayga 2021 is definitely one of the most anticipated SUVs in the country with the previous iteration being the first SUV from the company. Given its immense popularity, Bentley wanted to give its loyal customers something more and therefore the 2021 variant was announced. The new model still prides itself on a lot of safety features including anti-lock braking technology, driver and passenger airbags along with airbags on the side, central locking, and brake assist. Bentley didn’t skimp out on the features either as they included everything from adjustable seats and headrests to comfy heaters and voice controls for the ignition. Although the car is strictly an electric vehicle, it is estimated to be one of the fastest sedans in the market. It is capable of reaching 0-97 kmph in an impressive 2.9 seconds only. Powering the Model X is an electric motor that is backed up by either a 75kWh or 100 kWh Lithium-Ion battery. When fully charged, the Model X is claimed to offer a range of 475 km/charge which will be the highest among other electric vehicles. The transmission offered on the Model X will feature All-Wheel-Drive capabilities that can be used for better control. When the Model X is finally launched in India, it could quickly become one of the most second hand cars in the country and is destined to deliver on everything the company has promised.
