Mahindra Thar EV
The Mahindra Thar EV could become the first electric off-roader in the mainstream car market. Equipped with an all-electric powertrain, the Thar EV was showcased as the Thar.e concept at Mahindra's Futurescape event in Cape Town, South Africa. It retains the rugged appeal of the ICE Thar while offering a more futuristic look with modern EV technology.
The Thar EV will feature a four-wheel-drive (4WD) setup, an advanced battery pack, and an off-road-focused electric powertrain. With a boxy yet futuristic design, the Thar EV will have LED lighting, a modernized interior, a digital driver display, and a large infotainment system. Built on Mahindra’s INGLO platform, the Mahindra Thar EV will compete with upcoming electric off-roaders. The SUV is expected to launch in late 2026 , and should appeal to eco-conscious off-road enthusiasts.
The Mahindra Thar EV price is expected to range between Rs 25-30 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. As an all-electric off-roader, it will introduce modern technology and sustainability to the affordable adventure SUV segment. The on-road price may vary depending on state subsidies and tax benefits for EVs. With a rugged yet futuristic design, powerful electric motor, and enough off-road capabilities, the Thar EV will target a niche group of eco-friendly off-road enthusiasts. The official launch timeline is yet to be confirmed, but it is expected to arrive in the market by late 2026 . Once launched, it will become a one-of-a-kind offering.
The Mahindra Thar EV Specs are expected to include a rugged electric powertrain with a dual-motor setup for all-wheel drive capabilities. It will even offer an impressive battery pack that will offer a respectable real-world range. The Thar EV dimensions are likely to be similar to the ICE variant. Expected to debut by late 2026 , the Thar.e electric concept serves as a pre-cursor to a production model that could pave the way for the arrival of more such offerings in the mass-market segment.
The Mahindra Thar EV rivals will include electric off-roaders like the upcoming Force Gurkha EV and the Maruti Jimny EV. It may also face competition from premium EV SUVs like the Tata Harrier Electric’s AWD variant.
