Mahindra keeps the XUV 7XO's engine lineup fairly straightforward, with two turbocharged options. The AX7 brings a substantial jump in comfort equipment, including 18-inch diamond-cut alloys, leatherette upholstery, dual-zone climate control and a 6-way powered driver's seat with memory. TPMS and sequential LED indicators are also added.

For buyers who want the technology-heavy version, the AX7 TECH introduces Level 2 ADAS, ventilated front seats, an electronic parking brake, passive keyless entry and the 16-speaker Harman Kardon system with Dolby Atmos.

At the top sits the AX7 LUXURY, which adds 19-inch diamond-cut alloys, multi-zone ambient lighting and ventilated rear seats. It also gets a powered co-driver seat with Boss Mode, rear wireless charging with cooling and additional seat cushioning.

With a big SUV like the XUV 7XO, mileage is naturally not its biggest focus, but the diesel does a decent job of keeping fuel stops manageable. The petrol is better suited to buyers who value performance, while the diesel makes more sense for those who spend more time on highways. AWD versions are slightly less efficient than the standard diesel models.

For regular city use, expect roughly 8-10 kmpl from the petrol and 11-13 kmpl from the diesel. The difference becomes more noticeable on longer drives, where the diesel can return around 14-16 kmpl on the highway, while the petrol manages around 11-13 kmpl.

The 60-litre fuel tank also works in the XUV 7XO's favour on road trips. If you maintain a steady pace and drive smoothly, the diesel version can travel over 800 km on a full tank, which makes it the more convenient option for frequent long-distance travel.

The XUV 7XO has the size and stance expected from a large family SUV, but Mahindra has given it a modern appearance with sharp detailing and premium lighting elements. The long wheelbase and wide body also give it a planted look from the side.

Front Profile

The front end features a broad grille with piano-black detailing and chrome accents. Bi-LED projector headlamps with integrated DRLs are offered from the AX trim, while higher versions add ice-cube LED fog lamps with cornering functionality. The lower bumper gets a sculpted design with a faux skid plate, giving the SUV a slightly tougher appearance.

Side Profile

The side view highlights the XUV 7XO's 2,750 mm wheelbase and long proportions. Higher versions get a panoramic Skyroof, while roof rails add to the SUV stance. The flush-fitting smart door handles sit neatly against the body and pop out when the key is detected nearby.  Depending on the trim, the XUV 7XO rides on 17-, 18- or 19-inch wheels, giving the higher variants a more imposing look. Lastly, you get 200 mm of ground clearance for tackling broken roads and potholes. 

Rear Profile

At the back, clear-lens LED tail lamps extend into the rear quarter panels and give the SUV a distinctive lighting signature. AX7 TECH and AX7 LUXURY variants add sequential LED indicators at the front and rear. The rear design is completed by the roof spoiler, high-mounted stop lamp, rear wiper and washer, defogger and shark-fin antenna.

The XUV 7XO's cabin is one of its biggest talking points. Mahindra has packed it with screens and comfort equipment while offering two different seating arrangements for buyers with different priorities.

Space and Seating

The 7-seater gets a conventional 60:40 second-row bench that can tumble forward for third-row access. The 6-seater replaces this with two individual captain seats, creating a more premium second row and an easier passage to the rear.

Front Row

The front seats are broad and supportive, with the AX7 adding a 6-way electrically adjustable driver's seat with memory and a welcome retract function. The AX7 LUXURY goes further with a 4-way powered co-driver seat, Boss Mode and additional seat cushioning.

Second Row

Rear passengers in the top AX7 LUXURY get ventilated seats on the 6-seater version. The cabin also offers a powered Boss Mode adjustment for the front passenger seat, tablet mounting provisions, 65W USB Type-C charging and rear window sun blinds.

Third Row

The third row gets its own AC vents with blower controls, smartphone storage and Type-C charging ports. It is more suitable for shorter journeys, though, as taller adults may find the knee and legroom restrictive.

Tech and Usability

The XUV 7XO gets a tech-heavy dashboard with three 12.3-inch screens. The driver gets a digital instrument cluster, while the central touchscreen handles infotainment, navigation and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The front passenger gets a dedicated screen for entertainment, apps and selected vehicle functions.

Higher variants add a 16-speaker Harman Kardon system with Dolby Atmos and Quantum Logic Immersive technology. Rear passengers also get integrated tablet mounts with 65W USB-C charging, making longer journeys more convenient.

Other highlights include ventilated seats for the first two rows on select 6-seater versions, a powered driver's seat with memory and Boss Mode for the front passenger seat. A panoramic glass roof, dual-zone climate control and an air purifier with live AQI display add to everyday comfort. Higher variants also get the 540-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS.

Boot Space, Storage & Practicality

The XUV 7XO offers 240 litres of boot space with the third row in use, which is enough for smaller bags and everyday luggage. Folding the third row increases the available space to over 460 litres, while folding both the second and third rows opens up more than 700 litres for larger items.

Cabin storage is practical too, with a cooled lower glovebox, centre-console storage, deep door pockets that can hold 1-litre bottles and a dedicated map-reading lamp console.

The Mahindra XUV 7XO is expected to receive an overall 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP (BNCAP). But do note it currently does not have a rating. It also builds on the safety credentials of the XUV700, which previously earned a 5-star Global NCAP rating and a “Safer Choice” award.

Passive Safety

Six airbags are standard across the XUV 7XO range, covering the front, side and curtain areas, while higher variants also get a driver's knee airbag. ISOFIX mounts are provided for child seats, and all seating positions get 3-point seatbelts, with height adjustment for the front occupants.

Active Safety & Electronics

The standard package includes ESC with 17 integrated safety functions, ABS with EBD, traction control, roll-over mitigation, Hill Hold Control and Hill Descent Control. Higher variants add features such as TPMS, parking cameras and an electronic parking brake with Auto Hold.

The AX7 TECH and AX7 LUXURY also get Level 2 ADAS, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keep Assist and Smart Pilot Assist.
