Mahindra XUV 7XO - Blend of Heritage & Modern Tech
The Mahindra XUV 7XO builds on the success of its predecessor, the XUV700, but reimagines it as a more refined and technology-rich SUV. Powering this D-segment SUV are the proven 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre mHawk turbo-diesel engines. It gets options for both manual and automatic transmissions, along with the introduction of a host of upgrades inside and out.
What sets the XUV 7XO apart is its focus on connected and software-defined vehicle architecture, including a triple HD screen layout across the dashboard, integrated voice assistants such as Alexa with ChatGPT support, and a suite of safety and driver assistance features that raise the bar in its segment.
The Mahindra XUV 7XO price in India positions it as a strong rival to other mid-to-premium three-row SUVs. It takes on both C and D-segment SUVs like Hyundai Creta, Tata Sierra, Tata Harrier and Safari, Jeep Compass and more.

The Mahindra XUV 7XO engine is powered by familiar yet capable powertrains, which were also available on the outgoing XUV700.
- 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol - ~200 PS and ~380 Nm
- 2.2-litre mHawk turbo-diesel - ~185 PS and ~450 Nm
Both engines are available with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions. The diesel automatic variant is also available with an All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) option. However, to keep the price and the efficiency in check, the AWD is not available with petrol powertrains.
These engines deliver confident performance for both city driving and highways, with smooth power delivery and flexibility for various driving conditions.
The XUV 7XO range includes multiple trims spanning from value-oriented base variants to feature-rich flagship options. Here are the key variants of Mahindra XUV 7XO, which are available in both petrol and diesel options.
- AX - Entry-level SUV with essential safety and connectivity.
- AX3 / AX5 - Adds more convenience features like parking sensors, alloy wheels and foldable mirrors.
- AX7 / AX7T - Mid-to-upper trims with advanced tech, climate control, surround view cameras and premium interiors.
- AX7L - Top-end with AWD options, additional comfort and tech enhancements.
Each step up brings meaningful additions to comfort, convenience and safety.
The Mahindra XUV 7XO maintains the XUV700’s silhouette but refreshes with a sharper and more contemporary presence. It features a redesigned front grille that goes with the signature look of Mahindra SUVs. The LED DRLs are now sharper and are paired with twin projector headlamps. The alloy wheels are also refreshed with 19-inch rims available on the top variants. These exterior design updates move it closer to the brand’s new design language, which is also seen on the 3XO and Mahindra electric vehicles.
The XUV 7XO has a long wheelbase that complements its muscular proportions well. This gives the SUV a strong road presence and more than sufficient interior space. The practical design elements, such as dual-tone finishes and aerodynamic bumpers, reflect a modern SUV character.
Being a D-segment SUV, the Mahindra XUV 7XO doesn’t lag in space inside the cabin. It comes with two-row and three-row configurations, which can accommodate 5 or 6 people, respectively. The brand has ensured that creature comfort stays is highest in the segment with comfortable seats with modern features. The dashboard features a coast-to-coast triple-screen setup, wireless smartphone connectivity and an intelligent digital ecosystem powered by Mahindra’s ADRENOX platform.
Comfort features include ventilated seats, multiple USB-C charging points, an air purifier, panoramic sunroof and premium audio with Dolby Atmos support. The SUV is available in both 6-seater and 7-seater car layouts, catering to families and long-distance travellers.
Safety is a strong focus in the Mahindra XUV 7XO. The SUV comes with Level 2 ADAS that includes features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and autonomous emergency braking. The SUV also offers seven airbags as standard, an electronic stability program and a 540-degree camera system for enhanced situational awareness.
Mahindra is targeting a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating with this model, reflecting its robust structural design and advanced active safety systems.
Mahindra XUV 7XO is a D-segment SUV, but its lower variants are priced on par with various C-segment SUVs. Some rivals the Mahindra XUV 7XO stands against in India include:
- Tata Safari - Large family SUV with bold design, but doesn’t offer as many modern features as XUV7X0.
- Hyundai Alcazar - Known for premium cabin and smooth ride quality, the Alcazar isn’t as butch or even as rugged as many of its rivals.
- MG Hector - Tech-oriented SUV with spacious cabin that is sold at an attractive price, it doesn’t feel as posh or capable as the rivals.
Across these rivals, the XUV 7XO aims to impress with its connected tech, interior space and AWD capability.
In spite of many factors working in its favour, the Mahindra XUV 7XO even has a few shortcomings. Hence, a buyer needs to make the final purchase decision based on his exact requirements.
| Pros | Cons |
| A feature-rich cabin with triple HD screens and advanced tech makes the interior the best in the segment | The triple-screen interface may feel overwhelming to some users and might take time getting used to |
| First ICE SUV in India with SDV (software-defined vehicle) architecture, enabling key troubleshooting over the air. | The third row is best suited for short trips as it doesn’t have enough space |
| Revamped suspension setup, termed DaVinci suspension, offers better ride quality | Capacitive touch controls may not suit all buyers, as they take time getting used to |
| AWD available on select trims only, with no option on petrol model | |
| Level 2 ADAS and 540° camera aids safety and driver confidence |
The Mahindra XUV 7XO can be an ideal choice for buyers who are looking for a premium and feature-packed SUV. It can be shortlisted if the buyer’s requirements include modern connected technology, powerful engines, and a comfortable ride across most terrains. multiple powertrain choices and robust safety systems to the table.
