Mahindra BE 05

The Mahindra BE 05 is built on Mahindra’s INGLO electric platform. This architecture is designed purely for EVs. That makes a big difference in driving feel. Higher variants of the Mahindra BE 05 are expected to get a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. Power output could go beyond 280 bhp with strong torque available instantly. In an EV, torque delivery is immediate. There is no waiting. You press the accelerator, and the SUV moves forward without hesitation.

0 to 100 km/h times are expected to be under 6 seconds for top versions. But what stands out is not just speed. It is smooth. The Mahindra BE 05 builds pace silently and confidently. In city conditions, it should feel easy to drive. There is no gear shifting. Steering effort is likely to remain light at lower speeds. On highways, the low battery placement improves stability. The Mahindra BE 05 should feel planted, not nervous.

The Mahindra BE 05 is expected to come in multiple variants. The difference will not be cosmetic alone. Battery size and drivetrain layout will define the character.

BE 05 Standard

This version will likely use the 59 kWh battery pack. It focuses on daily usability and efficient performance. It should deliver a practical range for city users. Equipment levels are expected to include a large touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, connected car technology, and advanced safety features.

BE 05 Long Range

This variant will carry the larger 79 kWh battery pack. It will offer an extended range and possibly higher performance. The acceleration could feel sharper. The driving modes may include Eco, Normal, and Sport settings. The Mahindra BE 05, in its higher trims, is expected to deliver both performance and technology without compromising usability.

Range is one of the most important factors in any EV purchase. The Mahindra BE 05 offers claimed figures between 450 km and over 500 km, depending on the battery pack. In real Indian conditions, city range could be slightly lower due to traffic and air-conditioning usage. 

On highways, if driven calmly, the BE 05 should deliver close to its claimed numbers. Regenerative braking will help improve efficiency in stop-and-go traffic.

Fast charging support is expected. This means the Mahindra BE 05 can recover a large percentage of its battery in under an hour at compatible charging stations. Home charging overnight will remain the most practical option for most users. The BE 05 is designed to reduce range anxiety, not increase it.

Similar to the BE 06, the Mahindra BE 05 would carry a bold design. It will look very different from EVs from most rivals. The front will likely feature slim LED headlamps that will be connected by a light bar. The bumper will have strong cuts and creases. The side profile will display a coupe-inspired roofline. Flush door handles and large alloy wheels will work together to give it a premium look.

The stance would feel wide and confident. The rear would have a sharp theme with sleek tail lamps and a sculpted tailgate. Unlike many SUVs that look bulky, the Mahindra BE 05 will focus on looking athletic. It will not rely on excessive chrome. Instead, it will use sharp lines and proportions to stand out. 

The cabin would feel completely different from older Mahindra models. The dashboard design will be clean and layered. A large floating touchscreen should dominate the centre. 

The digital instrument cluster will be modern and easy to read. High-quality materials are expected across the cabin. Soft-touch surfaces and ambient lighting will improve the premium feel. The flat floor, thanks to the EV platform, will increase cabin space. The rear seat room should be generous.

Technology will be a strong focus. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, over-the-air updates, connected car features, and voice commands are likely to be included. With the Mahindra BE 05, Mahindra will focus equally on design and usability. 

Thanks to the learnings from the BE 06, the BE 05 will not feel experimental but would be ready for a segment that is increasingly getting competitive. 

In all likelihood, safety will be one of the strong points of the Mahindra BE 05. We’ve already seen the BE 06 scoring 5 stars at NCAP. The platform sharing and a similar list of safety equipment should ensure a similarly high score even for the BE 05. It may be noted that the INGLO platform underpinning the Born Electric vehicles assure a high structural strength and battery protection. 

Expected safety features include multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and advanced driver assistance systems. Features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and automatic emergency braking may be offered in higher variants.

The Mahindra BE 05 will compete with several electric SUVs in the Indian market.

Tata Curvv EV: The Curvv EV focuses on coupe styling and brand familiarity. However, the BE 05 promises a more dedicated EV platform.

MG ZS EV: The ZS EV is practical and proven. But the Mahindra BE 05 looks more futuristic and performance-oriented.

Hyundai Kona Electric: The Kona offers refinement and reliability. Yet, the BE 05 could offer a stronger presence and updated technology.

The Mahindra BE 05 positions itself as a modern electric SUV with bold styling and strong specifications rather than just a practical EV. However, like every other vehicle, it will have its strengths and weaknesses. Hence, you’re requested to take note of both before making a purchase decision. 

In case you’ve planning to purchase a sufficiently powerful EV that isn’t as costly as the BE 06, it could be worth waiting for the Mahindra BE 05. The upcoming Mahindra electric SUV looks quite promising as its range and performance will be similar to the BE 06, but it would cost less. It will even benefit from the world class INGLO platform, a high focus on safety, and strong acceleration. 

However, you should look at other options in case you prefer traditional designs and technologies. That said, the Mahindra BE 05 will likely make a strong case for itself to all those looking for cutting-edge tech, design and electric performance.
