2027 Hyundai Tucson makes global debut — 245PS hybrid, Pleos Connect and more space

Hyundai Motor has unveiled the all-new fifth-generation Tucson in South Korea, marking the SUV's first full redesign in six years. The new model gets a tougher design, more cabin space, updated powertrains, improved ride comfort and new digital features based on Hyundai's Pleos Connect platform.

The new Tucson will be offered with a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.6-litre turbo-hybrid engine. Prices in South Korea will be announced in October, ahead of sales.

5th-gen Hyundai Tucson new design and a dedicated XRT trim

The new Tucson follows Hyundai's "Art of Steel" design language. It gets vertical H-Edge daytime running lights, a slim horizontal centre lamp and sculpted fenders. A sharp character line runs across the sides, while the rear gets prism-effect tail lamps with 3D transparent housings.

Hyundai will also offer a dedicated XRT trim with a unique grille, wheel arch cladding and skid plate for a tougher, more outdoor-focused look. The SUV is available in eight exterior colours, including five new options: Serenity White Pearl, Driftwood Grey Matte, Driftwood Grey Metallic, Redrock Orange Matte and Serene Copper Pearl.

The cabin gets four colour options. These include the existing black monotone theme, along with Mud Grey/Dove Grey, Black/Sand Beige and Black/Inlay Soil Brown two-tone combinations.

Next-gen Hyundai Tucson — more space and a more practical cabin

The new Hyundai Tucson is 4,700mm long, 1,905mm wide and 1,685mm tall, with a 2,785mm wheelbase. Compared with the outgoing model, it is 60mm longer, 40mm wider, 20mm taller and gets a 30mm longer wheelbase. The Second-row headroom has also increased by 29mm to 1,031mm, while the rear door opening angle has increased from 73 to 83 degrees for easier entry and exit.

New-gen Hyundai Tucson engine, hybrid technology and efficiency

The new Hyundai Tucson gets a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine with 193PS and 265Nm, making 13PS more than the outgoing model. Its claimed fuel efficiency is 12.2 km/l, down by 0.3 km/l. The 1.6-litre turbo-hybrid powertrain produces 245PS and 380Nm, which is 10PS and 29Nm more than before. Its claimed fuel efficiency also improves to 17.4 km/l, up by 1.2 km/l. These figures are based on 17-inch tyres and a 2WD configuration, as tested in South Korea.

 It also gets a new coasting guidance feature that uses navigation data to suggest when the driver can ease off the accelerator to improve efficiency. The hybrid also gets Stay Mode, which allows the climate control and infotainment system to operate while the vehicle is stationary and the engine is switched off.

2027 Hyundai Tucson ride comfort, refinement and aerodynamics

Hyundai has revised the Tucson’s suspension and body structure to improve ride comfort and stability. The front suspension mounting points and rear suspension support structure have been strengthened, while new suspension valves allow for more precise tuning.

Hybrid versions also get E-Traction, which uses the electric motor to control vertical and fore-aft body movement, improving stability and comfort on uneven roads. Hyundai has also revised the engine and transmission mounts and added more sound insulation. Reinforced dashboard material helps reduce engine noise, while thicker front door glass cuts down wind noise.

Despite the larger body, the drag coefficient has dropped from 0.33 to 0.30 on both petrol and hybrid versions. This has been achieved through changes to the rear spoiler, 17-inch wheels, active air flaps and rear bumper spoiler, along with additional sealing around the air flaps.

Fifth-gen Hyundai Tucson features

Inside, the new-gen Hyundai Tucson gets a floating-style dashboard with either a 17-inch or 12.9-inch display, depending on the variant. Both screens have a 16:9 aspect ratio and are paired with physical buttons for key functions. The infotainment system also supports split-screen functionality, allowing navigation, media and vehicle information to be displayed together.

It also gets a double D-cut steering wheel, hidden palm-rest tray, Hyundai’s Add Gear accessory mounting system, dual wireless charging, a 100W USB port, multi-air vents, manual rear-side sun curtains, front Relaxation seats and a Bang & Olufsen sound system, among other features. Remote Smart Parking Assist is available from the Exclusive trim upwards.

Hyundai Tucson to be the first SUV with Pleos Connect

The new Tucson is the first Hyundai SUV to get Pleos Connect. The platform includes Gleo AI, a generative AI assistant, and the Pleos App Market. Gleo AI supports natural conversations and can help with information searches and travel suggestions. The Pleos App Market allows users to access services such as video and music streaming and games.

2027 Hyundai Tucson safety features

The new Hyundai Tucson gets several new safety and convenience features as standard. It is the first Hyundai model to offer Door Unlock Power Redundancy, which allows the doors to be unlocked using backup power if the main electrical system is damaged in a crash.

It also gets Pedal Misapplication Safety Assist, which can reduce engine power and apply the brakes if the accelerator is pressed by mistake at low speeds. Forward Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA-F) can also apply the brakes if it detects a pedestrian or obstacle ahead. Both features are standard across the range. A segment-first Memory Reverse Assist can remember the vehicle’s recent path and help steer while reversing.

Other standard features include nine airbags, Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control 2, emergency braking in Park through the shift-by-wire system and Rear Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA-R).

The Tucson also gets a segment-first Surround View Monitor with Transparent View and Ground View, which shows the road surface beneath the vehicle on the infotainment screen. Front, rear and side Parking Distance Warning and Walk Away Lock are also standard.
