Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has reported domestic sales of 47,837 units for May 2026, marking a year-on-year growth of 9.07% compared to 43,861 units sold in the same month last year. Including exports of 13,300 units, the total sales tally for the month stood at 61,137 units, a 4.15% increase over the 58,701 units reported in May 2025.
Hyundai May 2026 sales — Key takeaways and analysis
May is typically a softer month for the industry as the festive season remains months away and year-end demand normalises. Hyundai's domestic numbers reflect that pattern to an extent. On a month-on-month basis, sales declined by 7.83%, slipping from 51,902 units in April 2026. The drop of around 4,000 units is consistent with industry-wide trends and is not specific to Hyundai.

The export side showed more pressure. Hyundai shipped 13,300 units overseas in May 2026, compared to 14,840 units in May 2025, a decline of 10.38%. This pulled the overall growth rate down to 4.15%, even as the domestic business remained healthy.
Commenting on the results, Tarun Garg, MD and CEO of Hyundai Motor India Limited, noted that the company continued its strong momentum into May 2026 with 9.1% domestic sales growth and 4.1% overall sales growth for the month.
A strong start to FY27
Looking at the bigger picture, Hyundai's cumulative performance for the first two months of FY27 (April to May 2026) stands at 99,739 domestic units, up 13% from 88,235 units sold in the same period of FY26. This is a meaningful jump and reflects the strength of the company's current lineup, anchored by models like the Creta, Venue, Exter, Alcazar, and Tucson.

New launches on the horizon

Hyundai has confirmed two new model introductions for this fiscal year, and both are expected to add fresh momentum to the brand's India portfolio. The first is a sub-4-metre electric SUV, which is being developed specifically for the Indian market and is expected to launch ahead of Diwali 2026. The second is a mid-size SUV that is believed to be based on the Bayon platform and is expected to slot below the Creta in the lineup, with a launch targeted for early 2027. Separately, a new generation of the Creta has also been spotted testing, suggesting that more product action is coming in the months ahead.
