Kia India has shared a new teaser for its upcoming three-row hybrid SUV, confirming that it will be called the Sorento in India. The teaser features the Italian coastal town of Sorrento, using the similarity in names as a clue. Kia’s social media caption asks viewers to identify the location using Google Lens or an AI assistant, hinting at the Sorento name ahead of its launch.

The image shared by Kia shows a stylised European street scene that resembles the area around Piazza Tasso in Sorrento, Italy. The similarity between Sorrento and Sorento appears to be the main clue in the teaser, helping build interest ahead of the SUV’s launch.
The teaser follows Kia’s earlier campaign that hinted at two upcoming models for India: a battery electric vehicle (BEV) and a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV). Kia has since launched the Syros EV, which was the BEV featured in that campaign. This leaves the Sorento Hybrid as the likely model behind the HEV teaser.
Upcoming Kia Sorento launch timeline
Kia has not yet announced the Sorento Hybrid’s launch date, booking details or delivery timeline. However, industry reports suggest that the SUV could launch in India around August 2026, with deliveries expected to begin by late September or early October.

Since Kia has not confirmed these details, the timeline could change. The Sorento Hybrid was also spotted testing in India earlier this year. Although the test vehicle was heavily camouflaged, it appeared to retain the overall design and proportions of the international model.
2026 Kia Sorento design & dimensions
The Kia Sorento has an upright front design with T-shaped LED headlamps and a large Tiger Nose grille. At the rear, it gets a sloping windshield and vertical LED taillights, giving the SUV a modern look. The three-row SUV is expected to measure 4,815mm in length, 1,900mm in width and 1,700mm in height, with a 2,815mm wheelbase. It will offer seating for up to seven occupants, while boot space is expected to range from 175-179 litres with all three rows in use to 604-608 litres with the third row folded.

Kia Sorento expected specifications based on the Australian-spec model

Kia has not yet revealed the exact specifications of the India-spec Sorento Hybrid. However, the 2026 Australian-spec model provides an indication of what the India-bound SUV could offer. The Australian-spec Sorento Hybrid uses a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with an electric motor. The strong-hybrid setup produces a combined 230PS and 350Nm and is paired with a 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. It uses a 1kWh lithium-ion battery and is offered with front-wheel drive (FWD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) options. The SUV also gets a 67-litre fuel tank.
Upcoming Kia Sorento price expectations
Kia is expected to price the Sorento Hybrid at around Rs 45 lakh, ex-showroom, in India. The final pricing will depend heavily on Kia's manufacturing approach for the model, whether it chooses to import the SUV as a completely built unit (CBU), assemble it locally through semi-knocked-down (SKD) kits, or pursue a higher level of domestic localisation, each of which carries different cost implications that would ultimately be reflected in the on-road price.
Rivals
As a three-row SUV, the Sorento is expected to compete with the Toyota Fortuner, Volkswagen Tayron and Skoda Kodiaq in India. Its petrol-hybrid powertrain could also position it as an alternative to ladder-frame SUVs such as the Fortuner and MG Majestor. However, the Sorento uses a monocoque platform and is likely to focus more on comfort and on-road performance than off-road capability.
