Mahindra’s two born electric SUVs—the BE 6 and the XEV 9e—have begun with a great start, with sales reaching over 6000 in a few months from launch. A new media report reveals that Mahindra is likely to introduce the 79kWh battery pack to the lower variants of the BE 6 and XEV 9e, which is currently only offered in the top spec Pack Three variant. Read on to know more about the Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e.
Mahindra BE 6, XEV 9e 79kWh to get lower variants
If this new media report stands correct, the Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e equipped with the 79kWh battery pack will become considerably more affordable than the current offerings. Mahindra currently offers both the SUVs with two battery pack options—59kWh and 79kWh—with the latter being exclusively offered with the top-spec Pack Three variant.

In a recent interaction with Autocar Professional, Rajesh Jejurikar, executive director and CEO of Mahindra’s auto and farm sector said, “There is a very large segment of people who will want 79kWh in lower packs. This has been very different from our assumption that 79kWh will be only in the top end and everything else will be 59kWh. There is a segment of people for whom range is really important over many of the other features that we are offering”.

It is worth mentioning that more than 75% of the total bookings have been made for the Pack Three variant of the XEV 9e and BE 6. While the fact reveals considerable acceptance for the top-spec variant of both SUVs, it is understood that the carmaker needs large penetration of lower variants for sustainable sales and growth moving forward. Jejurikar revealed that customers are hesitant in making a booking for the lower variants without checking in person and test driving, thereby delaying the decision making process.
Over 6,300 Mahindra born electric SUVs sold
Since the commencement of deliveries of the Mahindra XEV 9e and BE 6, the carmaker has managed to deliver over 6,300 units of its born electric range of SUVs. It is worth mentioning that Mahindra has only begun with the deliveries of the Pack Three variant of both SUVs, with deliveries of the lower variants set to begin on the timelines mentioned below.
- Pack Three Select - June 2025
- Pack Two - July 2025
- Pack One - August 2025
