Nissan Micra reborn as an electric hatchback — Renault 5’s cousin
- 1Nissan Micra EV shares its underpinnings with the Renault 5
- 2Comes with a choice of two battery pack options
- 3India launch currently not on the cards
The Nissan Micra is resurrected after a two year hiatus as an all-electric hatchback. The new Nissan Micra EV has been revealed ahead of its global launch later this year. It features an all-new design that looks quirky and finds its underpinnings in the Renault 5. Read on to know more about the Nissan Micra and its design, features and powertrain details.
All new design
The sixth-generation Nissan Micra looks radically different compared to its predecessors, which also explains its all-electric underpinnings. Up front, it features semi-circle-shaped LED DRLs along with rectangular LED headlights that give it a quirky front end. Other details at the front include a sculpted bumper with gloss black elements and satin finishes. Around the side, it features stylish alloy wheels and charging port on the front left fender. At the rear, it features circular LED tail lights along with a gloss black connected bar with Nissan badging.

Tech-loaded interior
On the inside, the Micra EV continues with its quirky design, featuring two 10.1-inch screens—one for the infotainment and second for the driver’s display. Despite measuring under four metres in length, the Micra EV measures 2.54 metres of wheelbase, enabling a good amount of space for passengers in both rows. It also offers 326 litres of boot space and five door configuration for ease of use and buyer simplicity.
Powertrain specifications
Coming to its powertrain, the Nissan Micra EV comes with two battery pack options — 40kWh and 52kWh. The 40kWh battery pack comes coupled with a 123PS electric motor and packs in a certified driving range of 308km. On the other hand, the 52kWh battery pack comes with a more powerful 150PS electric motor and a certified driving range of 408km on a single charge. Once out of charge, the Micra EV can replenish its battery from 15% to 80% in 30 minutes (40kWh battery) via a 100kW DC fast charger.

Will it come to India?
There is no clarity around the Micra EV India launch from Nissan. In its earlier plans, Nissan India announced plans to launch an A-segment electric vehicle in India shared with a Renault model, which is very much still a part of its global launch plan. Nissan India’s short term launch plan includes three models — a Renault Triber based MPV and two C-segment SUVs.
