Skoda has been testing its 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine with CNG option even since it was introduced with the Rapid sedan. However, the carmaker is yet to offer a CNG powertrain option with any of its offerings in the Indian market. Globally, CNG plays a good role in the brand's portfolio as it’s offered on multiple models like the Octavia, Scala and Citigo models.

At this point, there is only one passenger model on sale that offers the option of CNG with a turbocharged petrol engine, which is the Tata Nexon. If launched, the Kylaq will be the only other turbocharged CNG model on sale, after the Nexon CNG. With CNG fuel finding more acceptance every passing day, it has become crucial for brands to have CNG fuel options in their lineup. Needless to say, the Kylaq CNG will open up a large customer base, thanks to the efficiency gains it may offer without compromising on the performance. However, Skoda India is yet to share a tentative launch timeline for the Kylaq CNG.
Skoda Kylaq CNG powertrain details
The Skoda Kylaq is available with a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine and it is likely to be the base for the CNG powertrain. In the standard form, this engine puts out 116PS of peak power and 178Nm of torque. It is available with both a six-speed manual and a torque converter automatic gearbox. Needless to say, the CNG option is likely to see a drop in power and torque outputs and likely to come only with the 6-speed manual transmission, to keep the costs in check.
