BYD has revealed the third-gen BYD Atto 3 at the Beijing Auto Show 2026. Known as the Yuan Plus in China, this is not a facelift. It is a full new generation. The SUV gets a longer body, a new rear wheel drive platform, quicker motors, updated safety systems, and a fast charging setup that can go from low to almost full in under ten minutes.
The timing is important. A few months before this, BYD had launched the Atto 3 Evo in markets like India with a bigger battery and better range. But the Evo and this new model are very different underneath. The Beijing version is the future direction for the Atto 3 globally and brings major upgrades across the board. Here is a full breakdown of what the new 2026 Atto 3 offers.
Third-gen BYD Atto 3 design — What's new?

The third-gen BYD Atto 3 moves away from the softer coupe-style look of the current model. BYD has shifted to its Dragon Face design, giving the SUV a more upright and conventional shape. At the front, it gets slim headlights with a connecting silver strip that carries the BYD logo, along with a full-width LED element. The lower section has a black grille and air vents placed below the headlights.
Other updates include semi-flush door handles, new alloy wheels up to 19 inches, and an illuminated BYD logo at the rear. Buyers in China get six colour options. The roofline is now flatter instead of sloping. The tailgate is more upright. This change improves headroom and practicality inside.
New-gen BYD Atto 3 dimensions
This is one of the biggest changes in the new BYD Atto 3. It is not just slightly bigger, it has moved up in size. The new model measures 4,665 mm in length, 1,895 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height. That is 210 mm longer, 20 mm wider, and 60 mm taller than before. The wheelbase has also increased to 2,770 mm.

This pushes it into a higher segment, closer to larger EVs. The extra size also improves practicality. Boot space is now 750 litres, along with 180 litres of frunk space.

Third-gen BYD Atto 3 interior & features
The new BYD Atto 3 cabin layout is similar but features and details have improved. It gets a large touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster, and a head up display. Other features include ambient lighting, powered front seats with massage, a panoramic roof, a powered tailgate, and a 16 speaker audio system. The front passenger seat also gets a reclining function with an ottoman.

Practical features include a cooled storage box, 50W wireless charging, and USB Type C charging. The cabin also has better storage spaces. Some China specific software features may not come to global markets, but most hardware features are expected to be retained.
Third-gen BYD Atto 3 safety features
Safety is a big upgrade in the new BYD Atto 3. The current model in India offers basic Level 2 ADAS, but the new version goes further. It gets a LiDAR-based DiPilot 300 system in China, which can read surroundings more accurately than camera-only setups. This system may not come to all markets and could be replaced with a simpler setup depending on localisation. The earlier Atto 3 already has a 5 star Euro NCAP rating, and the new model is expected to maintain a strong safety standard.

2026 BYD Atto 3 battery specs & charging
The new BYD Atto 3 uses BYD’s second generation Blade Battery, which improves efficiency and thermal performance. There are two battery options. A 57.5 kWh pack with a 200 kW motor gives a claimed 540 km range. A larger 68.5 kWh pack with a 240 kW motor offers up to 630 km. These are CLTC figures, so real world range will be lower. The new model also shifts to rear wheel drive, replacing the front wheel drive setup of the current version.

Charging is also another one of the biggest highlights of the BYD Atto 3 new-gen. BYD has introduced a flash charging system that is much faster than before. It can charge from 10% to 70% in about 5 minutes and up to 97% in around 9 minutes. Even in very cold conditions, the delay is minimal. This is a big jump from the current model, which takes close to 50 minutes to reach 80%. These speeds need high power charging stations. BYD is building this network in China, while plans for other markets are still unclear.
Third-gen BYD Atto 3 India launch
BYD has not confirmed the India launch of the third-gen BYD Atto 3. The current model is sold as a CBU, which keeps prices higher. The new version could arrive around 2027, possibly with other new models. It may not get all China-spec features, especially software and AI functions.
BYD has been slow and phased in India. The Atto 3 is its key model here, so the new generation will be important. However, fast charging support will depend on charging infrastructure in India.
