Upcoming Kia Sorento powertrain options revealed ahead of launch — Details inside!

The upcoming Kia Sorento is based on Hyundai-Kia’s N3 midsize SUV platform and will be offered with two powertrain options in India. The SUV is expected to launch by the end of August or early September. Kia has not yet confirmed whether the Sorento will be imported as a completely built unit (CBU), assembled locally using semi-knocked-down (SKD) kits, or produced with a higher level of local sourcing.
Kia Sorento powertrain options — Bookings open
Kia had already confirmed that the Sorento would introduce a hybrid powertrain to its India lineup. The upcoming three-row SUV will also be offered with a diesel engine at launch. Customers can choose between the hybrid and diesel powertrains. Bookings are open through authorised Kia dealerships and the company’s official website for a token amount of Rs 25,000.
Kia Sorento exterior design teased
Kia has teased the upcoming Sorento ahead of its India launch, revealing a few key design details despite keeping the SUV covered. The teaser shows a tall and muscular bonnet, an upright front profile and vertically positioned LED headlamps with an L-shaped LED signature, all of which closely resemble the facelifted Sorento sold in global markets.
The covered silhouette also hints at a long, boxy body with a relatively flat roofline, suggesting that the India-spec model will retain the global SUV’s spacious three-row layout. While the teaser does not reveal the complete front fascia, alloy wheels or rear design, the production model is expected to feature Kia’s signature Tiger Nose grille, connected LED lighting and a premium, feature-loaded cabin.
Kia Sorento interior, features, & safety
The global-spec Kia Sorento gets a dual 12.3-inch display setup, with one screen for the digital instrument cluster and another for infotainment. Both screens are housed in a curved panel that stretches across the dashboard.
The India-spec Sorento could get features such as a panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a head-up display, a 360-degree camera, a 12-speaker Bose sound system and multi-zone automatic climate control. Earlier interior spy shots showed a rotary gear selector, which could indicate that the hybrid variant will be offered in India. This type of gear selector is commonly used in hybrid and electric vehicles.
The Sorento is also expected to get Level 2 ADAS, including lane keep assist, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Other expected safety features include multiple airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ABS, a tyre pressure monitoring system, hill-start assist and parking sensors.
Kia Sorento dimensions & seating configurations
The global-spec Kia Sorento measures 4,815mm in length, 1,900mm in width and 1,700mm in height, with a 2,815mm wheelbase. The India-spec model is expected to retain similar dimensions, although Kia has not confirmed the final specifications. The Sorento is expected to be offered in 5-, 6- and 7-seat configurations. However, Kia has not officially confirmed the seating options for India.
