Outline

The VinFast VF 5 electric SUV has been spotted testing on public roads in Bengaluru. The latest sighting comes months after reports suggested that VinFast was considering the VF 5 for the Indian market. The repeated testing indicates that the India-spec model could get some changes compared to the version sold in other markets.

The VF 5 is expected to sit below the VF 6 and become VinFast's entry-level electric SUV in India. The company is also reportedly planning a fleet version for its Green SM ride-hailing service, meaning the VF 5 could be available to both private buyers and commercial fleets.

VinFast VF 5 India-spec design changes spotted in spy shots

Although the rear is visible in the latest spy shots, it remains partly camouflaged. The new images still confirm some of the details seen earlier. The VF 5 appears to feature a raked windscreen, shark-fin antenna, rear wiper and spoiler-mounted stop lamp. A concealed horizontal section on the tailgate hints at connected LED tail-lamps, while the lower bumper has horizontal reflectors and a hexagonal licence plate recess.

Earlier spy shots had already shown the main changes at the front. The India-spec VF 5 appears to have a more upright nose and clamshell bonnet, replacing the sloping front of the global model.

The headlamps also sit lower on the sides of the bumper, pointing to a split-lamp design. The side profile remains largely similar to the global VF 5, with black wheel arch cladding, black C-pillar detailing and lower door moulding.

Upcoming VinFast VF 5  dimensions

The India-spec VF 5 is expected to be under 4 metres long, placing it in India's popular sub-4-metre electric SUV segment. For reference, the global-spec VF 5 measures 3,967mm long, 1,723mm wide and 1,579mm tall, with a 2,514mm wheelbase.

Upcoming VinFast VF 5 cabin — No instrument cluster, big floating screen

Earlier spy shots also gave a look at the VF 5's cabin. The India-spec prototype has an all-black cabin, a two-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls and cupholders in the centre console.

The biggest change is the absence of a separate instrument cluster. Instead, the prototype appears to rely on a large floating touchscreen for both driving information and infotainment functions. Other expected features include multiple speakers, a wireless charger, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, electrically adjustable ORVMs and adjustable front seats, among others.

VinFast VF 5 expected battery & range

The VF 5 is offered with two battery options in other markets. The smaller 29.6kWh battery is paired with a front-mounted motor producing 95hp and 135Nm, with a claimed NEDC range of 268km. The larger 37.23kWh battery comes with a more powerful 136hp motor, while torque remains at 135Nm. This version has a claimed NEDC range of 326km.
