Gujarat RTO vehicle information: Check vehicle details by number plate

The state of Gujarat, with a population of approximately 7.2 crore people, has established 39 RTOs in its 30 cities to assist with vehicle registrations, issuance of learners and permanent driving licences, and other RTO related services. The RTOs in Gujarat are entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring compliance with the rules and regulations outlined in the Indian Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 across the state.

Gujarat Vehicle Registration Process

A new vehicle should be registered at the R.T.O. where the owner typically lives or operates their business.

1. The applicant needs to download Form No. 20 from the Gujarat State Transport Department website, complete it online, and submit it along with the required documents and proof of tax payment at the relevant R.T.O.

2. Inspections for two-wheelers and cars can be conducted by an authorised dealer within the State. If the dealer issues a certificate, it must accompany the application; otherwise, the vehicle must be brought to the R.T.O. for inspection

3. If all documents attached to Form-20 are in order, the vehicle will be assigned a registration number

4. If the owner has not acquired a preferred number by paying the requisite fee, the registration number will be generated randomly by a computer once the registration process is finalised

5. The vehicle owner will receive notification of the registration number via SMS or the email address they provided. The smart R.C. Books for the vehicle will be mailed via speed post to the address specified by the applicant in the Form
