Punjab, with around 3.17 crore residents, has over 75 Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) in its 23 districts to facilitate vehicle registrations, provision of learners and permanent driving licences, and other RTO services. The RTOs in Punjab are mandated to ensure adherence to the guidelines stipulated in the Indian Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 throughout the state.
The process for registering a motor vehicle in Punjab involves several steps. First, take the vehicle to the RTO office in your area. Complete and submit application Form 20 along with the necessary documentation, which includes the following:
2. Proof of address, age, and identification
3. Pollution Under Control (PUC)
4. The car's insurance certificate
5. A few recent passport-sized photos of the owner
6. Customs clearance certificate (needed for imported vehicles)
7. Vehicle purchase invoice
8. Payment of all applicable dues, including road tax
9. A copy of your PAN card or Form 60/61 if relevant
10. Tax as per Punjab Motor Vehicles Taxation Act/Rules
The registration fee should be paid at the cash counter of the RTO.
