fuel efficient petrol cars

In today's market, many buyers are looking for cars that offer more fuel efficiency. In India, this is especially true since cars that offer higher mileage are typically more popular than those that offer better looks or speed. As a result, manufacturers are constantly working to add fuel-efficient cars to their collections in order to compete in the Indian market.

CARS24 presents a list of 10 petrol cars in India offering the best fuel efficiency. While on the one hand, petrol cars are all the rage among buyers, there are some that offer better fuel efficiency than most. We'll look at 10 such cars with the best fuel efficiency here.

1. Maruti Suzuki Celerio

Maruti Suzuki Celerio

The second-generation Celerio is the most fuel-efficient petrol car available for purchase today. Out of all the Celerio models, the VXi AMT uses the least amount of fuel at 26.68kpl. The ZXi and ZXi+ AMT variants are not far behind at 26kpl each. Even the least fuel-efficient variant of the Celerio, the ZXi+ manual at 24.97kpl, uses less fuel than the third car on this list – the Dzire sedan.

Maruti Suzuki's new DualJet K10 petrol engine and Heartect platform have proved to be quite popular, helping them achieve strong sales figures. The new petrol engine is more efficient and produces 67hp and 89Nm. It's paired with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox, giving customers plenty of choices.

The WagonR is one of the most popular Maruti Suzukis because of its efficient engines. The tall-boy hatchback was updated earlier this year and now offers two petrol engine options – a 67hp, 1.0-litre, and a 90hp, 1.2-litre.

The smaller 1.0 engine is more fuel-efficient, delivering up to 25.19kpl with the AMT gearbox, while the 1.2-liter is rated to do up to 24.43kpl (ARAI), also with the AMT option.

The 1.0-liter engine also comes with a CNG option that is rated at an impressive 34.05km/kg, making it a great choice for those who are looking for an economical and environmentally friendly car.

Last year, the facelift for the Maruti Suzuki Dzire not only brought design changes and a longer equipment list, but also the replacement of the 1.2-litre K12M petrol engine with the 1.2-litre K12N unit that comes with a start-stop function.

As a result, the Dzire is now more powerful by 7hp and more efficient in both 5-speed manual (23.26kpl) and 5-speed AMT (24.12kpl) forms, making it the most fuel-efficient petrol sedan on sale in India.

8. Datsun Redigo

Datsun Redigo

Datsun gave its smallest model a makeover for 2020 and the changes are definitely an improvement. In addition to a new look, the Datsun Redigo also got some new features like power-adjustable side mirrors and an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system on the top-of-the-line T(O) trim.

The hatchback is available with two petrol engines: a 54-horsepower 0.8-litre and a 68-horsepower 1.0-litre. With the 1.0-litre engine and AMT gearbox, the Redigo gets an impressive 22 kilometers per litre, making it one of the most fuel-efficient petrol cars on the market.

9. Maruti Suzuki S-Presso

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso

Maruti Suzuki's latest model, the S-Presso, is a budget-friendly small car that weighs relatively less and comes with a peppy engine. It's not surprising that it shares the 68hp, 1.0-litre petrol engine with the Celerio and WagonR, and as a result, has similar ARAI efficiency figures.

The higher-spec VXI and VXI+ variants (which have 14-inch rims) have a slightly higher 21.7kpl rating – whereas the lower variants are rated at 21.4kpl. In addition to these great features, the S-Presso is also one of the most affordable cars in its class!

The VXI and VXI+ variants of the Maruti Suzuki Renault Kwid now come with a 5-speed AMT option, making it a more viable option for those who are looking for a smaller car that still has some oomph to it. The LXI and VXI trim also come with a factory-fit CNG option, making them more economical choices for those looking to save on fuel costs.
