Upcoming Toyota Cars in India in 2021

The name Toyota instantly brings a smile to any person who either owns or has travelled inside a car from the iconic brand. Bringing everything to the party, including comfort, reliability, power, performance, and affordability, Toyota is a car manufacturer that deserves its praise. For decades, Toyota has delivered some of the best cars in the country, and suffice to say, we can’t wait for their upcoming launches. So far, Toyota only has 2 upcoming cars in India and we take a closer look at what we know about them.

Toyota HiluxRs. 18.00 Lakh
Toyota Land CruiserRs. 1.50 Crore

Toyota Hilux

Expected Launch15 October 2021
Engine 2.4L Diesel, 2.8L Diesel
Transmission6-Speed Manual, 6-Speed Torque-Converter

As mentioned earlier, Toyota is known for its reliability and comfort but what if you could add durability and versatility to that list? Enter the Toyota Hilux. While pickups are not exactly what the brand is known for in India, the demand for SUVs in the country has allowed them to introduce something more adventurous. The Hilux will be one of the few pickup trucks available in the market with its closest rival being the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. Under the hood of the Hilux, we expect either a 2.4L diesel engine that generates 150Ps of power and 400Nm of torque or a 2.8L diesel engine that produces 204Ps of power and 500Nm of torque. Paired to those engines could be either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed Torque-Converter transmission system. Nothing more is known about the Hilux but we can expect it to come with some of the basic features such as automatic air-conditioning, power windows, an infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, adjustable seats, and LED headlamps. Safety is important for Toyota and they should include some features like ISOFIX Child Seat Anchors, parking sensors, ABD with EBD, multiple airbags, Hill Climb/Descent Assist, and seatbelt warnings.

Toyota Land Cruiser

Expected Launch15 December 2021
Engine 3.5L V6 Petrol, 3.3L V6 Diesel
Transmission10-Speed Automatic

Although we did mention that Toyota is an affordable car manufacturer, they also have some options on the other side of the table. Case in point – the new Toyota Land Cruiser. Expected to launch with a price tag of about Rs. 1.50 Crore, the sixth-gen Land Cruiser might just put an SUV-sized hole in your wallet. Nevertheless, there is a lot of offer and we can’t wait for the Land Cruiser to hit Indian soil. Powering the monster SUV will either be a 3.5L Twin-Turbo V6 petrol engine that will generate 415Ps of power and 650Nm of torque or a 3.3L Twin-Turbo V6 diesel engine that will produce 309Ps of power and 700Nm of torque. Both engines will come mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. In terms of features, we can expect the best from Toyota and the latest news has the Land Cruiser sporting a free-floating touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, power-adjustable seats, steering-mounted controls, a new audio setup, and more. We can expect the Land Cruiser to come with multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, Traction Control, Vehicle Stability Control, ISOFIX Child Seat Anchors, and the new Toyota Safety Sense technology which helps avoid a collision or reduces the impact of a collision.

With the SUV segment being one of the most competitive right now, the Indian automotive market needs some new entries to give buyers a few more options. The upcoming Toyota Hilux and Land Cruiser are the perfect cars to enter such a fierce market and with what they have to offer, they are probably going to take the country by storm. Which of the two Toyota cars would you prefer? Or do you already have your eyes set on something else?
