Discontinued Maruti Ignis gets a recall — Here's what the problem is and what owners must do
- 1Maruti Suzuki has initiated a recall campaign for the Ignis hatchback
- 2Problem is linked to a faulty "Controller Assembly, Park Sensor" component
- 3Owners of impacted vehicles have been contacted by the company
Maruti Suzuki India has announced a recall for the Ignis hatchback due to a potential issue with the rear parking sensor system. As a precautionary measure, the company will inspect and replace the affected component free of cost through its authorised service centres.
The recall comes despite the Ignis having been discontinued earlier this year. While the hatchback is no longer in production, Maruti Suzuki is carrying out the campaign for vehicles already on the road and will provide the necessary replacement free of charge to affected owners.
Maruti Ignis recalled — What exactly is the problem?
According to a document issued by an authorised Maruti Suzuki dealership, the issue relates to the Controller Assembly, Park Sensor, which is a key component of the Ignis' rear parking sensor system. The document states that a fault in this controller assembly could cause the reverse parking alarm to not function correctly in certain situations.
As a result, the parking sensor may fail to provide an audible warning when the vehicle is reversing near an obstacle. In some cases, the alerts may also work inconsistently. Since the system is designed to assist drivers while parking and manoeuvring in tight spaces, any malfunction could reduce the effectiveness of this safety feature. Drivers who regularly depend on the parking sensor while reversing may be affected if the warning system does not operate as intended.

While the issue does not impact the vehicle's ability to drive, brake, or steer, it can affect the driver's awareness of objects behind the vehicle during low-speed manoeuvres. For this reason, Maruti Suzuki has decided to replace the affected component before it leads to inconvenience or potential safety concerns. The company has described the campaign as a proactive measure. Affected vehicles will receive the replacement part free of charge through authorised service centres.
