Hyundai Motor India has officially confirmed the name of its upcoming SUV as the Bayon. This is the first official announcement about the new model, which Hyundai says will start a new chapter for the brand in India.
The Bayon will be added to Hyundai India's existing SUV range. The company says the SUV has been designed for a changing Indian market and will bring its global design and product approach to a new set of customers. Hyundai is also using the Bayon to introduce its idea of intelligent mobility. The company says the SUV will focus on technology, design and everyday usability, with a focus on making features easy to use.
Where does the name Hyundai Bayon come from
The name Bayon comes from Bayonne, a city in the French Basque Country. Hyundai says the name represents the city's character and dynamic spirit and fits the company's global design approach.

The Bayon name is already used by Hyundai in international markets. In Europe, the Bayon is a compact SUV positioned below the Kona. However, it is not yet clear if the India-spec model will be the same as the European version or get a different design and specification for the Indian market. Hyundai has not shared any technical or design details about the India-spec Bayon yet.
What we still don't know about the Hyundai Bayon
For now, Hyundai has only confirmed the name of the upcoming SUV. Details such as its segment, engine options, features, price and launch date have not been announced. Hyundai says more information will be revealed in the coming weeks. Until then, the Bayon name is the main update, while the details of the SUV remain under wraps.
