Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has announced that its premium hatchback, the i20, has crossed a cumulative sales figure of 1.5 million (15 lakh) units in the country. The milestone was announced on 24 July 2026 in Gurugram, nearly 18 years after the model was first introduced in India in 2008. Over this period, the i20 has been sold across three generations and has remained one of the more consistent performers in Hyundai's Indian line-up.

Since its launch in 2008, the Hyundai i20 has evolved through three generations, with each update introducing improvements in design, technology, and safety while maintaining its place in the premium hatchback segment. According to Hyundai, the i20 continues to appeal to young professionals, urban families, and buyers looking for a feature-rich hatchback.
Hyundai i20's expanding range — N Line & Knight Edition
Alongside the standard hatchback, Hyundai has expanded the i20 lineup with two distinct variants. The i20 N Line is aimed at enthusiasts, offering a sportier design and driving experience inspired by Hyundai's global motorsport division.
For buyers who prefer a more distinctive look, Hyundai also offers the i20 Knight Edition. It features an exclusive black-themed exterior and interior with unique styling elements that give the hatchback a bolder appearance. Together, these variants help the i20 appeal to a wider range of customers.
Hyundai i20 engine options
The standard Hyundai i20 is powered by a 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine, available with either a 5-speed manual transmission or an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT), offering a balance between everyday performance, comfort and fuel efficiency.
For buyers seeking sportier performance, the i20 N Line is equipped with a 1.0-litre Turbo GDi petrol engine. This unit can be paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed DCT.
New Hyundai i20 features and safety equipment
The current-generation i20 comes equipped with a comprehensive list of features aimed at modern buyers. This includes 6 airbags as standard, a 26.03 cm (10.25-inch) HD touchscreen infotainment and navigation system, and a voice-enabled smart electric sunroof.
Connectivity is addressed through wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (via a wired-to-wireless adapter), along with over 60 Bluelink connected-car features. Safety equipment includes electronic stability control (ESC) and hill-start assist control (HAC), while the audio experience is handled by a Bose premium 7-speaker sound system. Additional features include a built-in dashcam and a tyre pressure monitoring system, offered on the highline trim.
