Rumour: Kia Carens Clavis EV to launch as a 7-seater only — Quite understandable
- 1Kia Carens Clavis EV likely to offer 7-seater configuration across variants
- 2Likely to come with two battery pack options and a front-mounted electric motor
- 3Claimed range with the bigger battery pack claimed over 490km
As we are approaching the Kia Carens Clavis EV India launch, many rumours are coming up revealing new information about Kia’s first made-in-India EV. The latest of them all is about the seating configuration, claiming that the upcoming Carens Clavis EV will be sold as a 7-seater MPV only. While we can not confirm this piece of information before launch, we can give our reasoning as to why this is quite possible.
Kia Carens Clavis EV to be 7-seater only?
An exclusive report from Cardekho claims that Kia India will offer the Carens Clavis EV in the 7-seater configuration only, unlike the ICE Carens Clavis that also offers the option of a 6-seater configuration. As we mentioned earlier, there is no way to confirm the same at the moment before launch, however, there are two clear cues hinting towards the possibility of it being offered a 7-seater electric MPV only.

To begin with, Kia India only teased the 7-seater configuration of the Carens Clavis EV in its first set of teasers. Between the two, if Kia India were to choose the configuration for the teaser, the premium positioning of the product would require the 6-seater configuration to establish its positioning in the market, given captain seats are considered as a premium feature. Kia choosing the 7-seater configuration reinforces that it could be the only seating configuration on sale, at least at launch.
Secondly, a bigger reason behind Kia choosing the 7-seater configuration could be the market response. When the Kia Carens sales crossed the 2 lakh milestone, Kia India revealed multiple data points, sharing the split between the seating configurations, variants, engine options etc. It was rather interesting to note that the 7-seater variants of the Carens accounted for over 95% of its total sales, leaving only 5% share for the 6-seater variants, which is surprisingly low. This data point could be the main reason behind Kia’s decision to choose 7-seater configuration as a default for the Carens Clavis EV, which is set to lock horns with the BYD eMax7. It is worth mentioning that the BYD eMax7 offers the choice of both 6- and 7-seater configurations.
Kia Carens Clavis EV powertrain options
Kia India is yet to reveal the complete specifications of the Carens Clavis EV. What we know so far is that the Carens Clavis EV will pack a 51.4kWh battery pack, offering an MIDC-certified range of 490km on a single charge. It is worth mentioning that the Carens Clavis EV shares its battery pack and motor with the Hyundai Creta Electric and despite having larger proportions and weight, manages to excel in terms of claimed range. It remains to be seen whether the smaller battery pack of the Creta Electric finds its way to the Carens Clavis EV or the 51.4kWh battery pack remains the only option.

Kia Carens Clavis EV launch date
Kia India is all set to launch the Carens Clavis EV on July 15, 2025. The Carens Clavis EV is going to be Kia’s first made-in-India electric offering, since models like the EV6 and EV6 are brought to the market as direct imports. Once launched, the Kia Carens Clavis EV will rub shoulders with the BYD eMax7, which currently is the only all-electric family mover on sale in the Indian market. It is worth mentioning that MG Motor India is also gearing up to launch the M9 electric van, but that is set to take on models like the Kia Carnival and Toyota Vellfire.
