Maruti Suzuki Hansalpur plant reaches 1 million annual production capacity

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has commenced commercial production at Plant D, the fourth manufacturing unit at its Hansalpur facility in Gujarat, on 30 July 2026. The new plant, dedicated to producing the e VITARA battery electric vehicle, takes the Hansalpur facility's total annual production capacity to 1 million units, a milestone Suzuki Motor Corporation says has never before been achieved at a single manufacturing facility in the company's history.
Maruti Suzuki plant D adds 250,000 units of annual capacity
Plant D has been built with an annual production capacity of 250,000 units and will be dedicated to manufacturing the e VITARA, Maruti Suzuki's battery electric SUV. The commencement of commercial operations at this plant was marked with a start-of-production ceremony, with the first e VITARA rolling off the line at the facility on the day production began.
Maruti Suzuki Hansalpur's growth since 2017
The Hansalpur manufacturing facility first commenced commercial operations with Plant A in February 2017, initially producing the Baleno. Since then, the facility has been progressively expanded, with each new plant adding to its overall production capacity and model lineup.

With all four plants now operational, Hansalpur's combined annual capacity stands at 1 million units, spread across a model mix that includes the Baleno, Fronx, Swift, and now the e VITARA.

India-Wide production capacity reaches 2.9 million units
Beyond Hansalpur, Suzuki currently operates three other manufacturing facilities in India, located in Gurugram, Manesar and Kharkhoda. With the addition of Plant D's 250,000-unit capacity, Suzuki's total annual production capacity across all four Indian facilities has now reached 2.9 million units, reinforcing India's position as a central manufacturing hub within Suzuki's global operations.
A second Gujarat plant planned for 2029
Maruti Suzuki has also confirmed further expansion plans within Gujarat. The company reached a basic agreement with the Government of Gujarat in January 2024 regarding the construction of a new plant in Sanand, which will become Maruti Suzuki's second manufacturing facility in the state, alongside Hansalpur. This upcoming plant is planned to commence production by 2029, with an initial annual production capacity of 250,000 units, following a similar phased capacity ramp-up to what Hansalpur has seen since 2017.
Suzuki's longer-term capacity targets
Looking further ahead, Suzuki has stated that it will continue to expand its production capacity in India, with a stated aim of establishing an annual production capacity of 4 million units by the 2030s. This target implies a further increase of over 1 million units in the coming years beyond the current 2.9 million unit capacity, factoring in contributions from both the upcoming Sanand facility and potential further expansion at existing plants.
