Mercedes-Benz G580 Electric units recalled in India over potential wheel loosening risk
- 1Mercedes-Benz India has recalled 99 units of the G580 Electric (G-Class W465)
- 2Recall was registered with SIAM on 26 May 2026
- 3Affected vehicles were manufactured between 12 July 2024 and 18 August 2025
Mercedes-Benz India has initiated a recall for 99 units of the G 580 Electric, its electric version of the iconic G-Class SUV. The recall was officially registered with the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) on 26 May 2026 and covers vehicles manufactured between 12 July 2024 and 18 August 2025.
What is the issue with the Mercedes-Benz G580 Electric?

The defect involves the wheel bolts on affected vehicles. According to the information filed with SIAM, certain G 580 Electric units may have wheel bolts that do not meet the required specifications. The concern is that over time and with regular use, the wheel bolt connection could gradually loosen while the vehicle is being driven. A loose wheel bolt connection directly affects driving stability and, in a worst-case scenario, could increase the risk of a crash. This is a mechanical safety concern and not related to the battery, software, or electric drivetrain of the vehicle.
Which vehicles are affected?
The recall covers the G 580 Electric variant of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, sold under the W465 model designation. A total of 99 units fall within the affected production window. These are vehicles that rolled off the production line between 12 July 2024 and 18 August 2025. If you purchased a G 580 Electric during this period, it is worth verifying whether your vehicle is part of this recall.

What should G580 Electric owners do?
Owners of affected vehicles should get in touch with their nearest authorised Mercedes-Benz service centre. The dealer will confirm whether the specific vehicle falls under the recall and schedule an inspection and rectification if required. As is standard practice for all safety recalls in India, the repair will be carried out at no cost to the owner. Rather than waiting for an official communication to arrive by post, reaching out directly is the quicker approach. The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the registration documents or on the driver's side dashboard can be used to confirm the recall status.

The G 580 Electric is one of the most expensive electric vehicles available in India and carries a significant price tag. A wheel bolt issue on a vehicle of this calibre is an unusual find, but the recall process ensures that owners are not left exposed to a safety risk.
