Outline

Mercedes-Benz has announced a recall in India for three models: the Mercedes-Benz CLE, AMG CLE, and AMG C-Class. The recall affects only the petrol variants. A total of 149 units have been impacted across the country. The issue stems from a potential software glitch in the Emergency Stop Assist system. This system is meant to detect driver inactivity and automatically bring the car to a safe halt if needed. A fault in the software could interfere with how it functions.

Certain units of the Mercedes-Benz CLE, Mercedes-AMG CLE, and Mercedes-AMG C-Class in India have been identified with a potential defect linked to the Emergency Stop Assist system.

The concern is straightforward but serious. In some cases, the assistive function may not be available as intended. If the system detects that the driver has not steered for an extended period, or has taken their hands off the wheel due to a medical emergency, the automated emergency stop feature might fail to activate.

That matters because the system is designed as a safety net. It is supposed to slow the vehicle to a stop and, if required, trigger an automatic emergency call. If the assistive feature does not initiate, the associated emergency call may also not go through.
