The automobile industry is currently trying to return to normal as the Coronavirus pandemic continues to haunt the world. In India, car manufacturers have been looking forward and have been trying to put some positive into the economy. With a large number of new cars listed and expected to be launched in the coming months, interested buyers can also have something to look forward to. While manual transmission cars are considered as standard in the country, automatic vehicles have been putting up a solid fight and have the potential of overtaking the manual segment. Automatic transmission cars are not only easier to drive, but they also give more people a chance to drive their favourite cars without having to worry about physically switching form one gear to the next. Although the working of an automatic car might look simple, it is far from it. The specialized sensors in the car help make the decision of whether or not to change gears and it all depends on the speed the car is travelling at. So, without further ado, here are the upcoming automatic cars in India for 2020 and 2021.

In an industry that is consumed by a sudden trend of SUV enthusiasm, the 2020 Volvo S60 is more a breath of fresh air that one might think. Although this sedan is based on the same platform as its 7-seater compatriot – the XC90, the new S60 offers the old-school customer so much more. For starters, the car is powered only by petrol engines and will not use diesel as an option anytime soon. There are hybrid options though, that could find the interest of some buyers. Currently, in the UK, Volvo offers the 2020 S60 in a total of 5 variants – all of which will now house a BSVI-compliant 2.0L 4-cylinder Turbo-petrol engine. The T4 and T5 variants will offer 190bhp and 250bhp respectively as well as automatic transmission and Front-Wheel-Drive. A 306bhp All-Wheel-Drive T6 engine is also available while a couple of T8 petrol and plug-in hybrid engines offering 400bhp complete the list. How many of these variants will actually make it to India is unknown but we can at least expect the T4 and T5 models to feature this year. While Volvo is a company that has been releasing cars regularly since 2014, most of the models feature similar exteriors as well as interiors and that trend carried over to the 2020 S60 as well. A touchscreen panel is fitted into the center console in portrait style which is easy to use and helps control the car settings quicker. In terms of audio, the car houses a Bowers & Wilkins stereo setup that provides top-quality sound. The rest of the interiors include leather-clad seats, a leather steering wheel, digital dashboard and instrument cluster, air condition vents, and power windows among others.

MG has already made its presence known with the premium SUV Hector that has instantly become one of the most popular SUV cars in the country. However, the Hector might not be the only SUV coming out of the MG brand name as the company has announced that the Baojun 510 will be launched in India very soon. Now, Baojun and MG are brands that fall under the SAIC umbrella which is why the Hector can be found under the name Baojun 530 in many countries outside India. Given the fact that they share so much, the Baojun 510 is designed almost identically to the Hector, however, it is a little smaller in size. Powering the Baojun 510 will be a 1.5L In-Line S-TEC III petrol engine that will generate 115Ps of power and 146Nm of torque. The SUV will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic gearbox as an option. Even though the Baojun 510 was first announced back in 2016, it is only just about to be released and launched in India. In terms of features, the Baojun 510 carries the same “Future Eye” LED DRLs found on the Hector which gives the car an aggressive look. There is also a twin-light arrangement of the headlamps which looks exactly like what is found on the Hector. Inside, the Baojun 510 features a dual-tone, black and light-brown colour scheme which actually gives it a rich look. Safety is MG’s primary concern which is why the Baojun 510 comes with airbags in the front and side, a dynamic stability control system, ABS with EBD, and parking cameras in the rear. If technology is what you’re after, MG supplies a lot and the Baojun 510 features it with style. There is an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, automatic climate control, push-button ignition, auto cruise, keyless entry, and a semi-open panoramic sunroof.

Nissan’s electric vehicle (EV) design platform is one of the best in the world and the upcoming Nissan Note e Power uses that design to offer something more than just cleaner driving. When it comes to EV’s, power and range are two variables all potential buyers look for and are the two obstacles most manufacturers find hard to overcome. Nissan’s attempt at solving that dilemma is the Note e Power as it features both an electric motor as well as a petrol engine. This would make it a hybrid essentially, but the petrol engine is not there to get the wheels turning. In fact, all the power comes from the 1.5kWh Lithium-Ion battery which offers a torque of 254Nm. The petrol engine in the car works as a battery charger to keep the car moving even when the battery is running out of juice. With its sole purpose set on charging, the engine is expected to have an impressive mileage of 37kmpl. Since very little is known about the Note e Power, we will have to wait till its launch date to know the other details.
