Range anxiety has been one of the main reasons people hesitate before buying an electric car. Hyundai Motor India seems to have addressed this with the new Hyundai Ioniq 5. The 2026 model gets a larger battery and a certified range of over 690 km, which is the highest yet for this car in India.

The update is not just about range. Hyundai has also made changes to the new Ioniq 5 design, improved the interior, added better connected tech, and introduced new safety features while keeping the overall character the same. It is priced at Rs 55.7 lakh (ex-showroom).

Here is a simple breakdown of what has changed.

2026 Hyundai Ioniq 5 design — What is new in the exterior design

New Hyundai Ioniq 5

The 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 5 keeps its overall design the same. The Parametric Pixel styling remains unchanged, with updates focused on small details. The front and rear get new bumper designs along with updated skid plates that add a slightly rugged touch.

The alloy wheels now have a new pattern, and the rear gets a redesigned spoiler and updated lighting elements, including a new V garnish detail. The colour options include Gravity Gold Matte, Midnight Black Pearl, Titan Grey, and Optic White.

New Hyundai Ioniq 5 interior

The 2026 Ioniq 5 interior also gets noticeable changes. The new 3-spoke leather-wrapped unit replaces the older 2-spoke design and comes with an interactive 4-dot pixel light strip and a heating function.

The centre fascia has been redesigned as well. The wireless smartphone charging pad has been repositioned and now integrates physical controls for the heated and ventilated seats. The dual 12.3-inch display setup — one for infotainment and one for the digital instrument cluster — is carried over, and it remains one of the best screen setups in this segment.

The cabin continues to offer the generous flat-floor layout, sliding centre console, relaxation front seats, and premium Bose audio system that have made the Ioniq 5 a favourite among those who have experienced it. Rear passengers still get power sliding seats and heating.

2026 Hyundai Ioniq 5 features

On the features front, the 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 5 gets several important upgrades. It now comes with the Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) with a 12.3 inch screen, offering better EV route planning and charging station integration. Controller Over the Air updates are supported, so software can be updated without visiting a service centre. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are now included, replacing the earlier wired setup.

It also adds features like Active Sound Design for a more engaging cabin experience, remote immobilisation through Hyundai Bluelink for added security, and in car payment for EV charging, which makes public charging more convenient.

New Hyundai Ioniq 5 safety features

The 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 5 safety features get a few useful updates. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 now comes with Parking Collision Avoidance Assist Rear, which can detect obstacles while reversing and apply the brakes if needed. It also gets Side Parking Distance Warning, which alerts the driver to objects on the sides while parking. Along with these updates, it continues to offer multiple airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, vehicle stability management, TPMS, and an anti theft system.

2026 Hyundai Ioniq 5 battery and range — The big number is 690 km

The biggest update in the 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the battery. It now gets an 84.0 kWh pack, up from 72.6 kWh earlier, with an ARAI range of 690 km. The previous model had a range of 631 km, so this adds around 60 km, which helps both in daily use and long drives.

The car continues to use Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, which is built for EVs and allows battery upgrades without major changes. Real-world range will vary based on driving conditions, but current owners report around 430 to 510 km. With the bigger battery, this should improve further.
