Hyundai Bayon-based SUV spotted in India — New 1.2L TGDi hybrid engine expected at debut
- 1Test mule shows split-style headlights similar to the current-gen Venue
- 2Silver-coloured roof rails and a reverse parking camera with sensors are visible
- 3new locally developed 1.2-litre TGDi hybrid engine is expected to debut
Hyundai's upcoming Bayon-based compact SUV is edging closer to launch, and the latest spy shots provide the clearest look yet at the production-spec model. Internally codenamed Bc4i, the SUV has been spotted testing on Indian roads and is expected to be one of Hyundai India's key launches before the end of the year.
What the latest Hyundai Bayon-based SUV spy shots reveal
Despite the camouflage, the test mule's lighting setup is clearly visible. At the front, it features a split-headlamp design similar to the current Venue, with slim LED DRLs positioned at the top. Earlier spy shots from Korea also revealed black cladding on the lower front bumper, along with front parking sensors and a radar module. While it is not yet confirmed whether these elements will be offered on the India-spec model, the presence of the radar sensor suggests ADAS functionality is under consideration.

In profile, the SUV closely resembles the Bayon sold in international markets. The test vehicle was fitted with alloy wheels featuring a piston-inspired design, while silver roof rails are visible along the roofline. The India-spec model is expected to ride on 16-inch wheels, similar to the global Bayon.
At the rear, the SUV continues with a split-style lighting layout. The lower section houses the brake lights, while the upper section is expected to contain the turn indicators and reversing lights. The test mule was also seen with a rear parking camera and parking sensors.

Hyundai Bayon-based SUV Interior and expected features
The interior of the India-spec Bc4i has not been revealed yet. However, a previously spotted N Line test vehicle in South Korea showed an all-black cabin with red accents and contrast stitching. The standard version is expected to use the same basic dashboard and layout, but with a more conventional colour scheme.

In terms of features, Hyundai is expected to equip the Bc4i with a comprehensive package similar to its other models in India. One feature to watch for is a 360-degree camera system. The current Venue does not offer it, while rivals such as the Kia Syros and Sonet do. If Hyundai adds it to the Bc4i, it could strengthen the SUV's appeal in an increasingly competitive segment.
New engine making its India debut
One of the most important aspects of the Bc4i is its expected powertrain. Hyundai is developing a new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol direct-injection (TGDi) engine for the Indian market, and the Bayon-based SUV is expected to be the first model to receive it.

The new engine is being positioned between Hyundai's existing 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol units. It is expected to deliver more performance than the 1.0-litre engine while offering better efficiency than the 1.5-litre unit. The engine is also expected to feature hybrid technology, in line with Hyundai India's plan to introduce eight hybrid models by 2030, including the next-generation Creta. Lower variants of the Bc4i are expected to continue with the existing 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine.

Upcoming Hyundai SUV launch timeline, pricing, and rivals
Launch is targeted for Q2 FY2027, which translates to the July to September 2026 window. Pricing is expected to be in the range of Rs 8 lakh to approximately Rs 15.65 lakh, broadly in line with the current Venue. The Bc4i will slot between the Exter and the Venue in Hyundai's India lineup, filling a gap between the smaller micro-SUV and the established compact-SUV territory.

Its primary rivals will be the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor, Renault Kiger, and Nissan Magnite. Given Hyundai's track record with value positioning in this segment, the Bc4i is expected to be a competitive entry.
