Upcoming Kia Sorento India launch date confirmed — All you need to know!

Kia has confirmed that the Sorento will launch in India on September 4, 2026. The announcement comes after weeks of test mule sightings and recent spy shots that revealed the SUV's interior. The Sorento is expected to be brought to India as a completely knocked down (CKD) kit and assembled locally. Once launched, it will compete with the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron, MG Majestor and Jeep Meridian in the premium three-row SUV segment.

Earlier spy shots and Kia's latest teaser have revealed several details about the upcoming Sorento ahead of its India launch. The teaser shows a tall bonnet, upright front profile and vertically stacked LED headlamps with an L-shaped LED signature, closely matching the facelifted global-spec Sorento. It also hints at a long body and flat roofline, suggesting the India-spec model will retain the spacious three-row layout offered overseas.

While the teaser does not reveal the full front fascia or the alloy wheel design, the production model is expected to feature Kia's Tiger Nose grille, connected LED lighting and a premium exterior design. At the rear, the Sorento is expected to get vertically stacked LED tail lamps, a shark-fin antenna, a raked rear windshield and a roof-mounted spoiler.

In terms of size, the global-spec Sorento measures 4,815mm in length, 1,900mm in width and 1,695mm in height, with a 2,815mm wheelbase. The India-spec model is expected to have similar dimensions.

Upcoming Kia Sorento interior and equipment revealed

Ahead of its launch, spy shots of the India-spec Kia Sorento have revealed several cabin features. It gets a curved display that combines the infotainment touchscreen and digital instrument cluster into a single unit. The SUV also features a multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters and controls for audio, phone and ADAS functions.

The centre console includes a rotary gear selector, terrain mode dial, wireless phone charger and Bose sound system. Other visible features include dual-tone black and brown upholstery, electronic parking brake, auto hold, hill descent control and a 360-degree camera.

The test vehicle was fitted with second-row captain seats, suggesting Kia could offer both 6-seat and 7-seat versions in India. The second row is also expected to get ventilated, sliding and reclining seats, along with Boss Mode for adjusting the front passenger seat. A Level 2 ADAS suite is also expected.

2026 Kia Sorento powertrain options

The Kia Sorento will launch in India with two engine options: a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong hybrid and a 2.2-litre diesel. It will also become Kia's first strong hybrid model for the Indian market. Globally, the hybrid combines a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine with an electric motor to produce 241PS and 380Nm. It is expected to be paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The diesel version is expected to use the same 2.2-litre engine as the Kia Carnival, producing 193PS and 441Nm. It is likely to be offered with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
