Since 2015, the updated Sonata has been available in three versions – Active, Elite and Premium – with a choice of a 2.4-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine in the Active, or a more powerful 2.0-litre turbo-charged unit in the Elite and Premium. All versions have six-speed automatic transmissions and are front-wheel drive.
Standard in all three versions is an 8.0-inch touchscreen sat-nav, smart key, push-button start, leather-appointed seats, dual-zone climate control air-conditioning, LED taillights, electric folding external mirrors, a 12-way electrically adjustable driver"s seat and a hands-free boot.
From 2017, the Sonata Elite was dropped from the market and both the Active and Premium turbo version were upgraded with an eight-speed automatic transmission, a greatly improved interior, increased technological connectivity and additional safety features.
In 2021, the eighth generation Sonata N-Line was released, boasting ultra-modern styling, cutting-edge technology, an Australian performance-tuned drivetrain and a powerful 2.5-litre turbo engine. While sedan sales are down overall in Australia, the Sonata continues to appeal to buyers looking for a Euro-styled car with a Hyundai-styled price tag.
