As is the case across the country, in Kolkata, the driving licence test is defined as per the Motor Vehicle Act 1988. The driving licence test is conducted by a Motor Vehicle Inspector who acts as the invigilator. The candidate for driving licence test needs to use his own vehicle for the test, with the vehicle compulsorily being of the same category for which a DL is required. One can use the vehicle of a motor driving school in case he doesn’t have a required vehicle.
For the driving licence test of a 2 or a 3-wheeler, the applicant needs to ride his vehicle inside a boundary and ride it in a way to make an imaginary pattern of 8 without stalling the vehicle even once. On riding to the satisfaction of the invigilator, the applicant is required to ride on a public road with the invigilator riding pillion.
In essence, the driving licence test for four-wheeler stays fundamentally the same as that for 2 or 3-wheeler driving licence test. The candidate is asked to ride on a purpose-built track on which one needs to use the vehicle without touching the boundary. Once the applicant drives to the satisfaction of the invigilator, he is asked to drive in real-world conditions. On failing any of the driving licence tests, the applicant can appear in the re-test after the payment of a nominal fee after 7 days.
