Mahindra Vision S spotted again with Thar-like LED headlights and a diesel confirmed
- 1Latest spy shots show a headlight unit resembling the current-gen Mahindra Thar
- 2Test mule was heavily wrapped, as seen in earlier sightings
- 3AdBlue cap spotted in a previous sighting confirms a diesel version
The Mahindra Vision S compact SUV has been spotted on test runs again, and the latest images offer something slightly more revealing than usual. Even through the heavy disguise wrapping that Mahindra has consistently applied to the test mule, the headlight unit is visible and it looks very similar to the LED setup used on the current-generation Thar. That is a significant visual cue, suggesting Mahindra may share lighting design elements across its SUV family.
Upcoming Mahindra Vision S exterior — What the latest sighting shows

The disguised test mule was photographed with enough clarity to identify the headlight cluster. The design mirrors the Thar's setup, which uses a distinctive LED arrangement that has become recognisable on Indian roads. Beyond the headlights, the heavy camouflage does not give much else away about the production exterior. Mahindra has been consistent about keeping the body shape covered through this phase of testing.
What earlier Mahindra Vision S spy shots had revealed
A previous sighting of the Vision S had already revealed something important under the fuel lid: an AdBlue cap. That confirms a diesel version with SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology, which is standard equipment on BS6 Phase 2 diesel engines. This means the Vision S is coming with a diesel powertrain, adding to the likelihood of strong real-world fuel efficiency numbers.
An earlier cabin leak was arguably more informative than anything spotted on the exterior. The interior images showed a layout that takes significant design cues directly from the Vision S concept that was first shown publicly. The AC vents, button controls, three-spoke steering wheel, and panoramic sunroof all appeared to have made the journey from concept to production with minimal dilution. The seating layout features a 60:40 split rear bench, which is practical for a compact SUV in this segment.
Where upcoming Mahindra Vision S fit
The Mahindra Vision S is built on the new NU_IQ platform, which is modular by design and can support both conventional ICE powertrains and a BEV setup. For now, the ICE versions have been confirmed as the priority, with diesel at minimum. The platform's BEV capability leaves room for an electric variant to follow later.

In terms of segment positioning, the Vision S is expected to slot below the Scorpio and above the 3XO in Mahindra's growing SUV lineup. Mahindra has also noted that it sees strong demand potential for SUVs in the above-four-metre category, which is where the Vision S and its NU_IQ platform stablemates will sit.

Mahindra Vision S India launch
Production is confirmed to begin in 2027. Left-hand drive versions, aimed at export markets, will follow in 2028. And while the car currently wears the Vision S name in all official references, Mahindra has indicated that the production vehicle is unlikely to carry that nameplate, making its final market identity something still to be announced.

The continued intensity of testing suggests Mahindra is moving seriously toward that 2027 date. The Vision S is shaping up to be one of the more closely watched launches in the compact SUV segment.
