Mercedes G-Wagon electric SUV India launch confirmed for January 9, 2025

Mercedes-Benz India has confirmed the India launch date of the production version of the Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ technology. Launching just days before the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo, this new Mercedes-Benz electric SUV is the first G-Wagen to be propelled by electricity. The electric G-Wagen, or the Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ technology, as it is officially named, is the first G-Wagen to get a fully-electric powertrain. It was first showcased in India in a prototype form a day prior to the Bharat Mobility Show 2024, at a Mercedes-Benz dealership in Delhi. Mercedes has now revealed the date of its official launch in India.

Mercedes-Benz will be launching the new electric SUV on January 9, 2025 at its annual press conference in the country. Bookings for the same had already opened a few months ago, and it was also launched globally a while before that.

Electric G-Wagen battery and motors specs

The Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology comes equipped with four electric motors — one for each wheel. The motors produce a combined power output of 587PS and an impressive 1,164Nm of torque. As a result, this boxy SUV can propel itself from standstill to 100kmph in under 4.7 seconds. The quad-motor setup is conjoined to a 116kWh battery, which has a claimed WLTP range of 473 kilometres.

Mercedes-Benz G 580 exterior design

The G 580 is unmistakably a Geländewagen, donning the classic boxy silhouette that is typical to the G-Class. It is easily recognizable as a G-Wagen from any angle you view it. The front grille is surrounded by a thin LED band, which gives it an appealing look. The SUV sits on 18-inch alloy wheels, which come as standard.

The dashboard in the new electric Mercedes G 580 has been picked up straight from its ICE counterpart, albeit with a couple of EV-specific tweaks in switches and settings. Notable features of the upcoming electric G-Wagon include a dual-screen setup with 12.3-inch screens for infotainment and instrumentation, a 360-degree camera setup, G-Steering, powered seats, ambient lighting, and more.

Upcoming Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ technology expected price
