Ninth-gen Toyota Hilux India launch confirmed for July 2026 — Everything you need to know!
- 1Outgoing Hilux is priced from Rs 28.52 lakh to Rs 36 lakh (ex-showroom)
- 2Powertrain is expected to continue with the 2.8-litre turbo diesel
- 3Likely to borrow the 48V mild-hybrid system from the Fortuner.
Toyota will launch the ninth-generation Hilux pickup truck in India next month, according to dealer sources. The new model will replace the current eighth-generation Hilux, which has been on sale in India for over four years.
The ninth-generation Hilux also marks a shift in Toyota's rollout strategy, becoming the first body-on-frame model to receive a full generational update ahead of the next-generation Fortuner. The outgoing Hilux is priced between Rs 28.52 lakh and Rs 36 lakh (ex-showroom), while the new model is likely to be priced higher.
Ninth-gen Toyota Hilux India launch soon — What's new on the outside?

The new Hilux first debuted in ASEAN markets as the Hilux Travo. It is built on Toyota's IMV body-on-frame platform, which also underpins the Fortuner. The India-spec model is likely to use the same platform, with market-specific features and powertrain changes.
The ninth-gen Hilux gets a completely redesigned exterior while retaining its rugged appeal. Up front, it features slimmer LED headlamps connected by a black trim with Toyota lettering, a larger honeycomb-pattern grille, and a more muscular bumper with angular air intakes.

From the side, the overall proportions remain familiar, but the pickup gets cleaner body panels, new 17-inch alloy wheels, and squared wheel-arch cladding. At the rear, it retains its vertical tail lamps with new LED lighting elements, while the tailgate now carries a large Toyota wordmark. Depending on the variant, the load bed will also be available with a roll bar and retain a payload capacity in line with other midsize pickup trucks.

Next-gen Toyota Hilux interior & features
The biggest changes will be inside the cabin. The new Hilux will feature a completely redesigned dashboard with a more modern layout, highlighted by a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. It will also get a new three-spoke steering wheel and twin gloveboxes.

Despite the larger screens, Toyota will retain physical buttons and dials for key functions. The feature list will also see a major upgrade. Depending on the variant, the new Hilux will offer powered and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, connected car technology, a 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring, terrain and drive modes, over-the-air (OTA) updates, an ADAS suite, and driver drowsiness detection.
9th-gen Toyota Hilux Engine and drivetrain expectations
The outgoing Hilux is powered exclusively by a 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine producing 204bhp and 500Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox, with 4x4 fitted as standard across the range. Since the new-generation Hilux continues to use the same IMV body-on-frame platform, Toyota is widely expected to retain this 2.8-litre diesel for the India-spec model.

What is new, however, is the possible addition of Toyota's 48V "Neo Drive" mild hybrid system, which was first introduced on the Fortuner. If carried over to the Hilux, this would mark the first time the pickup has received this technology.

A global EV variant — But will India get it?
In select overseas markets, the new Hilux is also available in a fully electric configuration, making it Toyota's first body-on-frame electric vehicle. The Hilux EV uses a 59.2 kWh battery pack powering front and rear electric motors for a combined output of 196 hp, with a WLTP-rated range of 240 km. Whether Toyota will bring this electric variant to India alongside the diesel version remains unconfirmed, and given the current state of EV charging infrastructure for commercial and lifestyle pickup use cases in India, a near-term launch of the electric Hilux locally appears unlikely.
