Outline

Skoda Auto India has barely finished getting the Kodiaq RS to Indian shores and the SUV has already made history. The entire first batch of 50 units sold out in a remarkable 6 minutes after bookings opened, setting a new record for the brand in India. It surpassed the previous benchmark set by the Octavia RS, which took 20 minutes to sell out.

The Kodiaq RS arrives as Skoda's most powerful production SUV ever brought to India, and the response from enthusiasts suggests there was significant pent-up demand for a performance-oriented, spacious SUV from the Czech carmaker.

Skoda Kodiaq RS pricing and booking details

Skoda Kodiaq RS

As of the time of writing, Skoda has not officially announced the ex-showroom price of the Kodiaq RS. Since the vehicle is imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), costs are higher than a locally assembled vehicle. Industry estimates and reports place the expected on-road price in Mumbai at approximately Rs 65 lakh, though this remains speculative until an official figure is shared.

Buyers who managed to secure a booking were required to pay Rs 3 lakh as the booking amount. Given that the vehicle sold out within minutes, it is safe to assume that a large number of interested customers were left without a unit in the first batch.

Skoda Kodiaq RS engine, performance, and transmission

Under the hood, the Kodiaq RS gets a 2.0-litre turbocharged TSI petrol engine that produces 261bhp and 400Nm of torque. This is a significant leap over the standard Kodiaq, which makes around 201bhp, giving the RS an extra 60 bhp and 80 Nm of torque over the regular model.

The transmission is a 7-speed DSG automatic and the SUV comes with 4x4 all-wheel drive as standard. Skoda claims a 0–100 km/h sprint time of 6.3 seconds and a top speed of 231 km/h. The RS also gets Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) with drive mode selection, and the front suspension uses a McPherson setup with lower triangular links, while the rear uses a multi-element axle.

Skoda Kodiaq RS interior and features

Inside, the Kodiaq RS carries a sporty theme without sacrificing the spaciousness that the Kodiaq nameplate is known for. The cabin uses black perforated leather throughout, with contrasting red stitching on the seats, steering wheel, and dashboard pad and RS badging on the front headrests.

The infotainment system centres around a large 32.77 cm touchscreen, part of Skoda's new-generation infotainment setup. A 26.03 cm virtual cockpit serves as the driver display, while a three-spoke sport leather steering wheel with shift paddles adds to the driving experience. The Canton Sound System with 725W output across 13 speakers and a subwoofer handles audio duties.

Comfort features include a three-zone Climatronic climate control system, front sports seats with ventilation, heating, power adjustment, memory function, and a thigh support extender. The SUV also gets a sliding panoramic sunroof, acoustic side windows, rear sunblinds, a 360-degree Area View Camera, and several other convenience features.

On the safety front, the Kodiaq RS comes equipped with nine airbags, electronic stability control (ESC) and related safety systems, Front Assist with autonomous emergency braking, Lane Assist, Side Assist (blind-spot monitoring), Rear Traffic Alert, Intelligent Park Assist, and an advanced driver attention and drowsiness monitoring system.

What happens next?

Given the extraordinary sellout speed, Skoda India is very likely to bring in a second batch of Kodiaq RS units. The brand has previously done this with the Octavia RS after its own rapid sellout, and there is every reason to expect a similar move here. An official price announcement is also imminent, and the pricing will determine just how aggressively the brand can position the Kodiaq RS against the wider premium SUV market in India.

For those who missed out on the first batch, watching for updates from Skoda India on the second allocation is the best course of action. Given that the booking amount is Rs 3 lakh, it is worth getting in touch with your nearest Skoda dealership to register interest ahead of the next batch opening.
