Tesla entered India in July 2025. The welcome it received was lukewarm at best. The standard five-seat Model Y priced at Rs 59.89 lakh was not exactly flying off the shelves. Steep 100% import duty on completely built units made sure of that. The car was good. The price was hard to justify for most buyers.
So Tesla did what makes sense, it went bigger. The company officially launched the Tesla Model Y L in India, a long-wheelbase six-seater variant of the same Model Y. The "L" simply stands for Long Wheelbase. This is the first entirely new Tesla product in India since the brand's entry. And it arrives as a direct answer to one of the loudest complaints Indian family buyers have - not enough space.

The Tesla Model Y Long Wheelbase is bigger than the standard Tesla Model Y in key areas. It measures 4,976 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,668 mm in height. That makes it 186 mm longer and 44 mm taller than the regular Model Y. The wheelbase increases by 150 mm to 3,040 mm, which is what creates space for the third row.
The design stays the same. You still get clean lines, a sloping roof, and Tesla’s simple styling. It looks like a stretched Model Y, nothing more. The full-length glass roof helps the cabin feel more open, especially important in a three-row setup. One thing to note is ground clearance. It drops by 16 mm to 122 mm when fully loaded. That’s fine for highways, but on rough roads, it’s something to be aware of.

The Tesla Model Y L in India is available in six colour options: Stealth Grey, Ultra Red, Glacier Blue, Pearl White Multi-Coat, Quicksilver and Diamond Black.

The Tesla Model Y Long Wheelbase uses a 2+2+2 seating layout, with two seats in each row. The second row gets individual captain seats instead of a bench. They come with heating, power folding, and inner armrests. The extra space between them makes the middle row feel more comfortable and less cramped.
The third row is usable. It gets its own AC vents, USB Type-C ports, cupholders, and split-folding seats. Adults can fit for shorter trips, while it works best for kids or occasional use.
Boot space is decent with all seats up, but it opens up when the second and third rows are folded. Buyers get up to 2,539 litres of space. Both rows can be folded using buttons in the boot, and there’s also a 116-litre frunk at the front. Up front, a 16-inch touchscreen controls most functions, while rear passengers get an 8-inch screen for media and games.

The Tesla Model Y Long Wheelbase in India gets a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. That’s a first for the Model Y here, since earlier versions were rear-wheel drive. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in about 5 seconds and has a top speed of 201 kmph.
The claimed range is 681 km (WLTP). In real-world use, expect around 500 to 550 km depending on driving and conditions. That’s enough for most city and highway use. Tesla hasn’t shared the exact battery size for India. The dual-motor setup uses a larger battery than the single-motor versions, which explains the higher range. It also supports vehicle-to-load (V2L). Buyers can run external devices or appliances directly from the car, which is useful during travel or power cuts.

The Tesla Model Y Long Wheelbase is sold in India as a completely built unit from Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory. It is priced at Rs 61,99,000 ex-showroom, sitting between the Tesla Model Y at Rs 59,89,000 and the Long Range RWD at Rs 67,89,000. That puts the full Model Y lineup between Rs 59,89,000 and Rs 67,89,000.
On-road pricing shows a bigger gap. The Model Y Long Wheelbase comes in at around Rs 69,40,425. The base Model Y RWD goes up to about Rs 67,07,325 on-road, while the Long Range RWD reaches roughly Rs 75,95,325.
Tesla Model Y long wheelbase warranty
Tesla offers a 4-year or 80,000 km warranty on the vehicle. The battery and drive unit come with an 8 year or 1,92,000 km warranty. These are standard global Tesla terms and apply to India as well.
After-sales service has been a concern for Tesla in India, given the limited number of service centres. Buyers outside Mumbai and a handful of other cities should verify service access before purchasing.
