The Indian automotive market is dominated by SUVs today. Sedans are slowly disappearing from the portfolios of automakers, and there are fresh body styles such as the coupe SUV coming in. The popularity of SUVs is not restricted to India but is a global phenomenon, with companies such as Ferrari and Rolls-Royce also coming up with their versions of a ‘SUV’. We aren’t here to discuss these cars here at the moment, though. Getting back to the point, here’s a list of the top 10 best selling SUVs in India, including the latest data from September 2025.

Tata Nexon

The Tata Nexon has climbed to the top spot, recording total sales of 22,573 units last month. It is offered with a wide range of powertrain options, including petrol, diesel, electric, and now CNG. Notably, it is the first passenger car in India to feature a turbocharged petrol engine equipped with a CNG kit.
Hyundai Creta

Ranking just behind the Tata Nexon, the Hyundai Creta recorded sales of 14,004 units during the same period. However, the number of Cretas sold each month still surpasses the total monthly sales of several mass-market car manufacturers in India.
Mahindra Scorpio

The Scorpio has been one of the best-selling Mahindra SUVs in India consistently over the past few months, clocking sales of 18,372 units last month alone. This includes both the Mahindra Scorpio Classic and the Mahindra Scorpio N, with the brand selling more diesel Scorpios than petrol ones.

Tata Punch

The Tata Punch climbed to the fourth spot on the list of top-selling SUVs in India for September 2025, registering total sales of 15,891 units across all powertrains and variants. Whether it truly qualifies as an SUV, however, remains a matter of debate.
Maruti Fronx

The Maruti Fronx is not just a better-looking Baleno; it stands out as an appealing package that combines practicality, drivability, and great design. MSIL sold 13,767 units of the Fronx in September 2025, placing it in the fifth spot.
Mahindra Thar

Mahindra offers the Thar in two body styles — a 3‑door version and a new 5‑door model called the Thar Roxx. In September 2025, the SUV achieved sales of 11,846 units. The Thar is available with both petrol and diesel powertrain options, catering to a wide range of off-road enthusiasts.
Hyundai Venue

The Hyundai Venue has made a comeback to this list after a long time, selling 11,484 units in September 2025. A next-generation model of the Venue is soon expected to be launched, and the same has been spied testing on multiple occasions.
Maruti Brezza

Selling 10,173 units last month, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza secured the eighth spot on the list of best-selling SUVs in India for September 2025. The Brezza is powered by a 1.5-litre K-Series petrol engine that produces 103 PS and 137 Nm of torque. It also comes with an optional factory-fitted CNG kit, further broadening the SUV’s appeal.

Mahindra XUV700

Making a comeback by pushing out the Mahindra Bolero, the Mahindra XUV700 secured the ninth spot on the list. The Indian carmaker sold a total of 9,764 units of the XUV700 in September 2025.

Mahindra XUV 3XO

Mahindra sold 9,032 units of its best-selling car in India last month, maintaining a strong lead in its segment. Interestingly, the XUV 3XO, for the first time in a while, ranked just behind its sibling, the Mahindra XUV700.
