Mahindra has officially launched the XUV 9e, raising the competition in the EV segment. This new EV stands as a strong contender against other EVs, particularly the recently launched Tata Curvv EV, which debuted earlier in August.

 

The Mahindra XUV 9e comes with a starting price of Rs 21.90 lakh, though the complete price range is yet to be disclosed. On the other hand, the Tata Curvv EV is priced between Rs 17.49 lakh and Rs 21.99 lakh, offering a competitive edge in pricing.

 

The big question is—how do these two EVs compare in terms of key specifications? Which one delivers a better range, a more powerful battery, quicker acceleration, and an overall superior driving experience? Considering the price gap, what does each model bring to the table for buyers?

The Mahindra XEV 9e offers two large battery options: a 59 kWh unit delivers 231PS of power and a larger 79 kWh battery delivers 286PS. Both variants share a peak torque of 380 Nm. In comparison, the Tata Curvv EV features slightly smaller battery options of 45 kWh and 55 kWh. The 45 kWh version generates 150PS, while the 55 kWh option offers 167PS. 

 

On the torque front, the Curvv EV produces 215Nm, which is comparatively lower than the XEV 9e. When it comes to drivetrains, the Tata Curvv EV uses a front-wheel-drive system, while the Mahindra XEV 9e is equipped with rear-wheel drive.

When comparing the MIDC-claimed range of the Tata Curvv EV and Mahindra XEV 9e, the Mahindra XEV 9e comes out ahead thanks to its larger battery options. The Tata Curvv EV is available in two battery variants: a 45 kWh battery providing a range of 430 km and a 55 kWh battery with a range of 502 km. 

 

In contrast, the Mahindra XEV 9e offers an impressive range, with its 59 kWh battery delivering 535 km and the larger 79 kWh battery offering a remarkable 682 km.

When comparing the charging times of the Mahindra XUV 9e and the Tata Curvv EV, there is a noticeable difference, though not a drastic one. With a DC fast charger, the Mahindra XUV 9e battery charges from 20% to 80% in about 20 minutes. In contrast, the Tata Curvv EV takes approximately 40 minutes to charge from 10% to 80% using a DC charger.

 

However, when using an AC charger, the charging duration increases for both EVs. The XUV 9e requires up to 11.7 hours to charge fully, which is considerably longer than the Tata Curvv EV’s 7.9-hour charging time, despite both vehicles being equipped with a 7.2 kW onboard charger.
