Upcoming Tata Cars in India in 2021-22

There are a lot of car manufacturers in India – both national and international – but there are still only a handful of names that stands out from the rest. When it comes to our very own, Tata has to be one of the biggest names in the industry. Founded in 1945, Tata Motors is one of the oldest car companies in the country with a plethora of models under its belt. Now, with technology being so quick, Tata has been releasing newer models regularly. With the ongoing pandemic across the globe, Tata, like every other brand, found it difficult to launch their latest cars when promised. However, Tata has finally set release dates for their upcoming cars and they all look exciting. Here’s what we can expect from Tata in the coming months:

MODELEXPECTED PRICE
Tata PunchRs. 5.50 Lakh
Tata Tiago EVRs. 6.00 Lakh
Tata SierraRs. 14.00 Lakh
Tata Altroz EVRs. 14.00 Lakh

Tata Punch

Expected Launch2 October 2021
Engine1.2L Petrol
Transmission5-Speed Manual, 5-Speed Automatic

Although Tata traditionally isn’t known for their SUVs, the upcoming Punch has to be one of the most exciting models in their lineup. The 5-seater Punch has been leaked and it looks like it will be available in gold, red, and blue colour options. Under the hood, the Punch is expected to come with a 1.2L petrol engine that generates 86Ps of power and 113Nm of torque – the same engine that is currently found on the Tiago. There is also news about the Punch coming with the 1.2L Turbo-petrol engine that powers the Altroz. In the transmission department, the 1.2L petrol engine is expected to come with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic gearbox. Tata always includes some of the latest technology and features into their cars and the Punch is expected to follow suit. The SUV is expected to come with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a semi-digital instrument cluster, automatic LED headlamps, automatic air-conditioning, cruise control, and automatic windshield wipers. Some of the safety features that should come on the Punch include dual airbags, parking sensors in the rear, ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX Child Seat Anchors.

Tata Tiago EV

Tata Tiago EV
Expected Launch15th December, 2021
Battery21.5kWh
Range213 Kms

The automotive industry in India has been developing rapidly and Tata has been leading the race to create a cleaner world. Electric Vehicles or EVs are soon going to be a huge part of our future and the Tata Tiago EV seems like a great way to get there. Powering this car is a massive 21.5kWh Lithium-Ion battery that offers an impressive 213 kms range on a single charge. Charging the battery to 100 percent takes about 6-8 hours while there are also fast charge capabilities that reduce that time to just 1.5 hours. As of now, not much is known about the Tiago EV other than Tata is expected to launch the model sometime this December. We can expect the Tiago to mirror many of the features of the recently launched Tigor EV.

Tata Sierra

Expected Launch10 January 2022
Expected PowertrainZiptron EV
Range400 Kms

As we already know, Electric Vehicles are quickly becoming the “in thing” in the automotive world and more people are looking forward to owning one. The Tata Sierra concept car was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 and has caused quite a stir in the EV segment of the automobile industry. Although it is not expected to launch any time before 2022, many people are looking forward to what the car will have to offer. One of the first things we can expect is that Tata will include an upgraded version of the Ziptron EV powertrain which is currently being used in their EV models. If that is the case, the Sierra will offer a range of about 400 kms on a single charge – something very few EV cars can do right now. However, Tata is expected to first release petrol and diesel variants of the Sierra before the EV version. Some of the features seen on the concept include dual-tone alloy wheels, LED headlamps, and taillights, and will feature the IMPACT 2.0 design by Tata which is based around the ALFA-ARC platform for its design and safety features.

Tata Altroz EV

Tata Altroz EV
Expected Launch13 March 2022
Battery30kWh
Range300 Kms

While the Tata Altroz EV was initially going to launch in December of 2020, soon after the Auto Expo 2020, COVID-19 had other plans. The delayed launch meant that people had to wait for Tata to officially announce their rescheduled launch. Now, it seems that Tata has set a date for March of 2022 for the upcoming Altroz EV. Inside the Altroz EV, Tata is expected to include a semi-digital instrument cluster which might be a step backward for the company. Otherwise, the Altroz EV is expected to come with other features like automatic air conditioning, a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, and a powerful audio setup. The Altroz EV is expected to get its power from a 30kWh Lithium-Ion battery pack and is rumoured to have a maximum range of 300 kms on a single charge.

With 4 cars ready to hit Indian roads sooner rather than later, Tata has to be one of the biggest talking points in the industry right now. The above-mentioned cars from Tata should quite easily go up against their competition in their respective segments given their expected specifications and features. With over 75 years of experience under their belt, we can all rest assured that Tata’s upcoming models will exceed expectations and give potential buyers the freedom of choice. Which of the 4 Tata cars would you be interested in buying?
